I have a 2000 Honda Civic with 4spd auto transmission. It currently has 250000miles on it, A few months ago I noticed when the car is warm the transmission has rough shifts from 1st gear to 2nd. When the car is cold this problem does not occur, what would be the remedy to this problem?

 

Define rough.

 

When shifting out of first to second under a load it doesnt smoothly shift, it delays for a second and goes into 2nd so hard it can shake the car if under enough of a load.

 

What does the fluid look like? Has the transmission been maintained? Time for a rebuild?

 

I took a look at the fluid, it looks very old, I dont think anyone has ever changed the fluid or touched the transmission.

 

drain and fill it 3x times... 3 quarts each time

see how it responds. Ive had a well neglected trans, did a oil change and fixed her right up.
It wasnt at 250k though.

Also the drain plug on the trans is magnetic, see how that looks. Mine was so bad it appeared that I dumped it into anti-seize. Clean it off good.
