Default 99 accord w/ H22a swap

Ok so I have a 99 Honda accord with a motor swap from a 95 prelude vtec edition. I took off from my house and my vtec worked perfectly, as I got across town I noticed my rpm gauge on my dash and vtec controll quit working and my vtec stopped working also. I went home and noticed that I lost a bolt out of the bottom of my vtec actuator and was losing oil so I pulled it off and replaced the gasket and mounted it back up. I did not take it out on the road however sitting in my driveway my rpm gauge is still not working. I'm not sure if the actuator itself needs replaced or what but any suggestions?

Malfunction of the tach? That's all I can think of. Did you just do the swap recently?

No the swap has been done for years. I detailed the motor compartment and cleaned up the wireing but it worked fine after and then just randomly stopped working. I figured it was because I lost a bolt but could losing a bolt and running the motor with it missing kill the actuator? And also would my actuator going out make my rpm gauge not work.

Sorry let me better explain. The gasket on the actuator was dry and cracked. When it lost the bottom bolt the actuator lost pressure and leaked oil. Could the actuator running without the proper pressure be enough to damage the actuator?

So now I'm more confused. Is the tach working or not? If not, are you sure you didn't do something to the wires around the dist when you were removing the solenoid.

It sounds like you are having two seperate issues.
One, you could have got water in the distributor, possibly damaging your icm, that is where the rpm signal originates from.
The second issue with oil leak from the vtec solenoid could cause your vtec not to engage.

A wire on my dist did crack and break so I had to take it a part and clean up the wiring. Im sure I hooked them up right but possibly I didn't. Problem is I don't know the proper way. I hate electrical. Who ever did the swap spliced the wireing inside the dist which made it tight on space so I spliced them outside the dist maybe I got them mixed up? Anyone have a diagram on the wire setup?

I recommend you go to your local parts store and buy a haynes or chilton for your accord, and one for the h22a.
