Is it worth swapping auto to manual?
I'm very interested in a clean 95 civic ex coupe but the car is auto with 139k on the clock. I have seen some articles on some of the parts required but if i end up spending 3k to buy this car how much more u guys think will end up running me after all is said and done? Is it worth all the hassle? Are there many people that do these jobs?
If you do the work yourself it brings the cost down significantly. I've seen auto to manual swaps run anywhere from making money to over a thousand dollars. The last one I did cost a whopping $68. Don't expect anything that low though unless you know a lot of Honda guys and can scrounge a lot of free or near free parts. Expect more like $500 ish for parts.
Not sure if its the same but I have manual transmission from a 2000 civic ex plus I have a 99 civic Si that's a parts car. I could gather everything or pretty much everything for you to do the swap.
Well u guys pretty much answered the question right off the bat and i apreciate it cause now i know atleast a ball park when it comes to price. The actual person selling the car says he has done it before and he is actually looking too see if the parts needed are available right now without too much hassle so he can let me know a total cost for the car converted.
Save yourself some time and don't but a transmission from craigslist. You are better off to get one from the junk yard, or somewhere where they have a limited warranty.

depends on
-how cheap of a trans you find
-how many junkyards locally
-how lucky you are with parts finding at junkyards
-your mechanic skills
ive seen manual converted eg's with the clutch pedal practically hugging the brake pedal. was quite the pain driving it, although i'm not sure myself how difficult mounting the clutch pedal would be. just saying, make sure you look into everything first :p

i've done it. Its not a hard job at all. everything bolts right up. I did this back in 05 and only had probs in the beginning with air bubbles
It's insanely easy, my 94 coupe was an auto, then i swapped it for an manual and got lucky buying the linkage and all the other goodies for around 200ish. The Auto transmission is heavy as hell though, so be prepared to have that thing on a jack at time of last bolt out of it.
Now it's a jdm b16 swap turbo'd. That was fun also, either way, good luck and have fun.

its definitely worth it and u can get a variety of transmissions from short geared ex trans or to conserve gas mileage with a dx transmission. 500 bux for parts doing it yourself. having someone do it ur prob looking for 300-500 in labor if u buy the parts depending how generous they are. i did mine myself in a weekend and having many issues with the auto i swapped and would never have it any other way.

Normally I'd say find one that's a 5spd from the factory, but most of these cars for sale are rat boxes, so if you find a clean auto, then yes it's worth it if you have the resources and knowledge.
Its worth it..I got a 94 civic ex coupe and I did the conversion myself and it wasn't difficult ...parts wasn't expensive at all if u know where u looking at...and now I'm getting ready for my gsr swap to drop in...I can't wait...
