Odyssey Timing Belt Question
I've looked at other posts and didn't quite find what I'm looking for. I need to get the TB changed in my 02 Odyssey and I was looking for a list of all the necessary services that need to be done. My local dealer quoted me $1300 for TB, Tensioner, Water Pump, Accessory Belt, O-rings, Coolant flush, and Plugs and Ignition Purge (I think that's what he called it, cleaning throttle body and fuel injectors). Without Plugs and Ignition stuff, it'll be about $1100. I would like to know exactly what needs to be done if anyone knows. Thanks in advance for any replies.
The reason I'm asking is that I've been given different opinions on exactly what needs to be replaced. I've been told just TB, Water Pump, and tensioner, and I've been told everything. Just trying to find out the best data. Thanks.
How many miles are on the Odyssey? First timing belt change?
At 105K, the recommended items to change are:
Timing Belt
Spark Plugs
Valve Adjustment
The timing belt service is really not related to the other two and thus, no labor savings if combined.
With the timing belt change, the following are highly recommended because of the labor savings:
Water Pump
Auto-Tensioner
Serpentine and P/S Belts (if not already)
Clean the EGR ports, throttle body clean (carbon build up) with the valve adjustment
Personally I would include the TB idler pulley since it is inexpensive and does wear over time and is a bear to replace if it does fail.
In each of the recommended 105K services, the parts are relatively inexpensive -- it is the labor. DIY is the least costly route, but you will need the tools and some steps (e.g. removing the crankshaft pulley bolt) can be a bit challenging. But don't skip this maintenance, especially if you plan to keep the van...

$1100 is a fair price for the timing belt as this is a pretty big job. I'd replace all those parts that you listed and also do the thermostat at the same time (makes sense to replace this too when the cooling system is already drained).
