Tempeture gauge/instrument cluster.
Hello everyone, I have a 98 accord 4 cylinder auto. My temp. Gauge always indicate cold, I changed the sending unit and it didn't change anything. The person I bought the car from said the cluster is from a V-6 edition, I believe 98 year model. I also grounded the gauge, nothing happen. WILL SOMEONE HELP ME PLEASE, THIS IS CRAZY.
Hello 2-key, does the needle move a little bit at least? Also, check, behind the engine block, I think in your car is near the driver side, there is sensor going in to the block with just one wire to it. Check if you have voltage there when the car is running and in closed loop. You can use the block for ground when plugging the voltmeter and the single wire for the + side. You should have voltage, lower than the battery over there. Also, if youhave the chance, check in the cluster, that all the screws going in the back of the gauge are in and in full contact with the circuit board in the cluster. The gauge uses them to feed voltage to the gauge.
Almost forget, check the connector behind the cluster. If it's loose it might be causing the temp meter not to get any voltage. If all that fails, check the meter. It might be fried.
Well I figure it out, once before my gauge will only read hot at all times. After a couple of test, the problem was on a 1998 and 1999 accord 2.3 has the temperature gauge sending unit. 2000 and later does not, with that said, you can only use a cluster from a 98 or 99 2.3 anything else will not work, it will read hot at all time. On 2000 and above, the temperature gauge sending unit is intergrated with the COOLANT TEMP SENSOR. Externally, the cluster look the same, but internal are different. Honda has a different part number between a 2000 and 1999. Double check your parts on your car.
