Default 3 inch exhaust for eg hatch

So far I have searched and there's only 3 choices, KTeller, Skunk2, and Thermal. Are there any other different options for a 3inch exhaust for an eg? Plus is there such thing as a 3 inch collector header for sale? Thanks, this is going on a poor mans type r.

nope. any of the custom header fabricators will tell you a 3 inch collector is retarded.

you wont find any off the shelf header with a 3" collector. you'll be hard pressed to have the likes of asp, hytech, smsp, etc., make you one too.

2.5" collector is the standard for exhaust scavenging purposes. At the collector it's important that gas velocity is optimal, 2.5" just happens to be good for that.

Once you get past the collector run 3". A LOT of the h2b guys run 2.5" collectors and 3" exhausts.

The only time I've seen someone with a 3" collector is some insane n/a build with wild compression on a car that wasn't remotely street legal.

Was thinking about that also. I just don't know which resonator to get that will fit on the piping that won't extend too far on the hatch. Was going to mate it to a 3 inch obx muffler

that's the great thing about a custom setup, you MAKE it fit.

Looks like it has some potential! Engine bay is dirty as hell..

I would do the WD-40 cleaning on that whole bay. But shell looks straight!

Good luck with her!

Absolutely, that's what I am running on my JDM ITR swap and I love it.
Personally, I sent it to JetHot and got it triple ceramic coated inside and out (Sterling, one step down from their Turbo/extreme-temp coating). I also had my buddy tig weld a protective plate under. My car isn't slammed, but just in case.

Here's the link with some pictures of the header + how I built my intake.

I agree. VRS Exhaust makes good stuff, I used to get all my DSM exhausts from them back in the early 2000s when they were still called Miami Muffler. If I ever go 3", I am getting one of their piping kits for sure (currently running Apex'I WS2).

Have you guys had good results with WD-40? Now that I remember, I use it to clean my bike's chain... I never thought about using it for an engine bay, though. Interesting.

OP: You should totally do a Build Thread for the Hatch man.

header looks great DSM! so tempted to buy one right now since there on a blowout price of 275 with the test pipe! haha i dont think my build will progress that quickly, i would do one though. oh yeah, aluminum or stainless steel? i know the pros and cons, but leaning towards aluminum since i dont have problems with rust in the south

Cool. I'll have to go say hi next time I am in Miami. Might pick up a new exhaust while I am there.

Thanks. And yes, $275 is a very good price. The lowest I've seen them is $250, but that was a couple of years ago. Been hovering between $300-350+ lately. Is this blowout in the H-T Marketplace?

It's not aluminium, it's "aluminized steel". If you want to save money, go for aluminized steel. The aluminized steel exhaust I had on my DSM (from Miami Muffler) barely had any surface rust on it after about 10 years on the car.

If I wind up upgrading to a 3" exhaust for my current setup, I will definitely go with stainless steel. I am at a point where $65 extra is not a big deal and I think it's worth it.

Good luck.

yup right there, if the sale is still going still next friday i will pick it up for sure.

i most likely will get the aluminized steel to save weight/money.

Money, yes. I doubt the weight difference (if any) will be tangible. Good luck either way!

The weight difference really shouldn't even be a consideration. I'm not wholly sure there is a weight difference.

I thought there wasn't any (steel vs. steel), but I did some research and there seems to be a very negligible change, apparently.

Bottom line: aluminized steel should not be confused with aluminium in any way, they are different (weight, strength, composition, thermal properties, purposes etc).

Stainless is iron, carbon, and chromium and it actually oxidizes so fast that a thin protective layer is formed and prevents further rust. Aluminized is iron and carbon, with aluminum coating it to prevent rust.

Stainless is actually fairly heavy stuff. There are many different alloys though. Generally you'll see 304 which will surface rust, it's what the cheap exhausts and headers are made of. 409 is what some of the better systems are made of. There's 316 weld els for high temperature applications like turbo manifolds.
