Default Today was a sad day!

With winter right around the corner here in Colorado, I had to do the thing that I was not looking forward to all summer and fall. Today, I had to take off the Slipstreams and Kumho 712's and put back on the 14" steel wheels and all-season tires (Toyo Premium Touring 800's). No more taking the on and off ramps at higher speeds. Anybody else have to take off the good wheels and tires for winter?

I weighed both wheels when I had them off the car.

The 16" Slipstreams with 205/45/16 Kumho 712's weighed 33 pounds (13.5 for the wheel and 19.5 for the tire)
The 14" steel wheel and tire combo (195/60/14's) weighted in at 37 pounds.

I was kinda suprised that the Slipstreams didn't weigh in lower than 4 pounds under the steelies. Anybody find that wierd?

Aaron

that sucks. here at the bay, all we gotta worry about is mainly the rain. some good all season tires and we're good to go.

Yeah, I'll probably get around to putting on my snow tires in a month or so... They're studded tires and I'm curious to see if I can get 'em to throw sparks. :D

I'm planning on getting better rims/tires for auto-x and nice days. But trying to find a good deal on decent stuff is easier said than done.

Our winters can be fairly harsh. The only thing that is nice is it can snow one day and be gone the next. A couple of years ago, Southern Colorado had 5-6 feet of snow in one weekend. Nobody but 4*4 got around and the towns were shut down. No school!

The 14" steel wheel and tire combo (195/60/14's) weighed in at 37 pounds. Kinda heavy but I thought I'd lost more than 4 pounds going to a lighter wheel? 4 pounds isn't much.
