Default oil light after head gasket replaced

93 LX Sdn

First time posing. Recently changed head gasket and drove fine for a few days. Oil light started flickering now stays on. Changed the oil and filter but nothing. Noticed a little smoke but assumed it was because of spilling a little during the change. Now I think it's coming out of the exhaust manifold. Any ideas?

When the light comes on, do you check the dip stick? is it really low?

Could be the oil pump.

Oil is full. Never was an issue until I changed the head gasket. Haven't checked the pressure yet but I'm thinking clogged screen. Few scrapes of the old gasket fell in between the block so that's a possibility right?

Might want to pull the pan to be sure nothing is sitting in there.

If you used an improper headgasket it could have blocked oil passage on head...or maybe if you left the head off too long something could have fell in.. Or maybe the oil switch wire got loose during disassembly

How much worse? I haven't moved it so the bearings won't get damaged. Got the gasket from Autozone and its OEM fit so I doubt it's that. But I am starting to think something fell in it. I'll pop out the pan when I get some time. Might just throw in a new engine and forget about it.

Got it. Turns out my oil screen was clogged up. Replace the part and now she's running fine.

Was there anything on it metal shaves etc, or just clogged from age?

Just scrapings from the old head gasket. That plus built up sludge. Managed to clean out everything just in case. Now she runs without overheating and no oil light or CEL. $50 fix altogether and the mechanic wanted to charge me $1000. Win for the little guy.
