Default Zero oil in oil filter.

Okay so I just finished my first build. When I started it there sounded like there was a rod knock from cylinder 1 (I'm guessing) also there was a lot of noise coming from the valves. I wanted to turn it off but my dad insisted I let it run a few minutes and the noises would go away. Well they didn't so I turned off the car and drained the oil. There was a ton of metal flakes in the oil well it was more like metal dust. So much that the oil looked like paint with a lot of flake in it. When I pulled the oil filter there was zero oil in the filter. I mean zero there wasn't even a residue. I pulled the valve cover to check the valve clearance and to my surprise it was way off. I paid $150 to have the head done and they didn't even adjust the valves! When i droped the oil pan there was a metal part in the botom of it(I have another post for that issuehttps://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-civic-del-sol-1992-2000-1/found-metal-piece-bottom-oil-pan-please-help-3047598/) Anyways if your still reading. What would cause no oil in the oil filter is the pump I got no good or is there possibaly another issue. Please help.

If there isn't any oil in your filter, your motor wasn't moving the oil. Your oil pump could be fried, your pickup could be messed up, or there could be debris clogging your oil passages.

Who did the bottom end work?

what exactly did you have done when it was rebuilt? you have to adjust the valves with the head on the car. dont blame the shop for that.

Shops that do head work dont adjust valves. How exactly are they supposed to do it with the head off?

I was just going by what the chiltons manual said. It was when you get the head back from a shop (professional) it will already be to specs. It's my first build so now I know for next time. The bottom end work was done by the same shop that did the head and I had a buddy journal the block to fit the h beam rods.

so you rebuilt the motor and didnt check to see if the oil was flowing through the engine before attempting to start it. fail on your part

now go rebuild it correctly and check and double check everything so you dont fry the next motor.

also my b16 oil filter would feel light also and when i sit it upside down no oil came out. that motor ran fine and had oil pressure. but probably not related. i think your oil pump was ****ed or something mechanical

wow i just read the other thread you posted a pic of the oil pump thing that has a spring going threw it suppose to control oil pressure. there is your answer i beileve

You had it bored to a 2.0l? On stock sleeves? Are you sure about that? I believe youd have to be at a 79.5mm bore to be at a 2.0l. And if you are, as said above the block is garbage

I was super tired and frustrated last night when I was posting. I don't know why I said 2.0L maybe because I was thinking just going b20. But its been bored to a 1.8L not 2.0L. Is it still garbage?

More then likely. Are you using stock size crank? What size are your pistons?

Well if it was just run dry it could be rebuilt. If its bored like he really says it is there's nothing he can do but get new sleeves or a new block

Bummer.
This reminds me of the time I bought a new lawn mower and forgot to put the oil in. Fortunately it was a cheap one ($135). But I still had to shell out the bucks for another mower. You are gonna need to tear it all the way down to find out what the real issue is.

If it wasn't garbage before it probably is no. I pulled the engine and as soon as I got it clear of the car the engine hoist tiped to the side and fell over hitting the floor. The pan wa already off and it smashed the oil pick up. From wha t I can see thats all the damage it caused to the engine. However the hoist tiped in to my 04 cbr600rr and smashed up the tail farring and knocked it to the floor witch scratched the farrings in the others side of my bike. I know hate this engine. After I almosted cried because the bike got knocked over I stomed on the engine but all I managed to do was bend the vent on the top back of the intake manifold. FML
