Like most accords my ABS unit is shot.

When car starts up the ABS unit makes a grinding noise. I pulled the fuse to prevent the noise each time i start the car.

Anyone know if this is a possible DIY fix?

 

Mine is not "shot". It works fine after replacing a $1.53 o-ring on the bottom of the accumulator. Your abs is running to build up pressure that that o-ring is leaking out.

 

Nice, i'll check the o-rings to see if there is leaking.

What kind of fluid does the ABS unit take?

 

It uses brake fluid.

Its most definitely not shot, Ive taken one apart before (98 through 02, not sure which gen/code that is) and the o rings were indeed the little problem causing big ones. I cant imagine it being much different for the CD's.

Check the FAQ there is a thread on 'how to fix my abs for a dollar' or something like that.

 

I read that and most of the people that commented told the guy his fix was crap.
