"Prelude Enthusiasts" Q and A's
New to Honda-Tech, Id like to take a moment to thank those who made this Forum possible. The information given here is not taken for granted.
Maybe someone can throw some ideas at me, things ive been wondering about this car.
First off, i have what carfax called 1992 Honda Prelude SR, standard interior, with nothing special except a few things(get there in a minute). Now after doing some research i found out that the SR is canadas version of the Si(if not correct please inform me). Now under the hood it has the sticker for H23A1 but that is not the motor i have in the car, it has the H22A DOHC V-TEC. so obviously someone did the motor swap. now what really gets me is that the rear bumper has an EDM rear Fog light on the passenger side of the bumper..
So a few questions:
1)How difficult is it to do a JDM H22A swap from H23A1?
2)Would the canadian version SR come with the EDM taillight? or is it a special bumper?(no one did a custom EDM install on factory bumper)
3)With V-TEC is it supposed to kick in at 6000rpm? mine does... without a chip is there a way to have it kick in earlier?
4)There are special fog lights that came equipped on preludes, like this one

where can i get these?
5)My digital temp gauge is always at half sometimes drops to a quarter, my fans never come on, even after a 3hr drive, i can pop the hood and hold onto my upper hose, THE FANS NEVER COME ON, but when i jumper the connector they come on!!!! IS THIS NORMAL
6)Do you have to modify the front support to fit one piece JDM headlights? or do all preludes fit one and two piece headlights?
7)What is up with the Valve cover Gasket for a H22A? are they all the same for any of the DOHC VTEC motors.
8)At takeoff, with a lot of throttle, i hear the valve train ping, or when i am at 2000rpm and i go full throttle in a certain gear i hear the same ping...
Is the H22A supposed to run on Premium fuel or do i need to adjust the valves?
9)And lastly for the moment, i have a persistant noise coming from pass/rear hub, every rotation it makes a distinct sound, especially heard when driving 5mph, or slower, i thought it might be something to do with the ABS, also have high frequency chatter sound coming from front wheel when brake is applied?
I have many more question, but these are on the top of my brain... replys to these question would be greatly appreciated
also if there is anything i should be aware of please inform me of any valuable information on these cars
