Default Should I use an OEM power steering pump?

I have decided to go ahead and change the pump. Can I use a replacement part, say from Autozone, or would you recommend I go for a OEM Honda pump? Also, if anyone knows, is the OEM pump Delphi or AC Delco?

Thanks in advance.

You could use one from auto zone, most of the time they come with a lifetime warranty.
But sometimes they aren't the best of quality.

I personally would buy an OEM one.

Thanks CRX. I decided to go with a Duralast PS pump as they're warrantied forever. I was in Autozone and came across Accel PS fluid designed for Honda and Acuras, so I figured, what the hell.

Looks easy enough to replace. Just have to make sure I don't have any screws or nuts left over when I'm done. I hate when that happens.

When replacing parts, you should always compare the price of the NEW OEM, RMD OEM, and aftermarket. The NEW OEM pump is ~$260 w/o shipping and the RMD OEM pump is ~$190 w/o shipping. How much are the aftermarket RMD units?

The pump is easily replaceable, however, it will be frustrating if you have to replace it soon.

Please use OEM PS fluid; it will prolong the life of your PS rack.

If you or a friend has tools, do it yourself. Buy OEM parts online to avoid the huge dealership markup.

Clean out the reservoir once everything is apart. There's a screen filter at the bottom that collects all of the crap in the system.

Is that at a dealership or indy shop?

That was a labor quote from Honda given to my mother. That was the unofficial quote as the official quote would have cost her $95 for the estimate.

Do other Honda dealers charge this estimate fee?

I think they usually charge a diagnostic fee...which is anywhere between $100-150.

Default Well well, not all PS pumps are made the same.

Thanks for all your replies. Here's what happened. Installed new Duralast PS pump and Goodyear Gator belt. Still whines bad when turning wheel. Finally decided I had enough and brought it to Bay Ridge Honda. Yes, I live on SI, but SI Honda are criminals (believe me, they are). Now keeping in mind this is the first visit to BR Honda, I didn't know what to expect. First off, they run a big shop and are open till midnight. So plan on waiting. The shop is huge but it is also used by Volvo, so they share space.

Well, after 90 minutes if waiting, the mechanic goes to retrieve my car. I see him and follow along. He immediately diagnosis it as a bad PS pump. DOH. I just replaced the damn thing two days ago. He says, let me swap it out and see if it goes away. He had the old pump out and new one in within 30 minutes. And voila, the whining was gone and the engine was silent. Well, I'll be damned. Mechanic explained that the aftermarket PS pumps are not always sealed completely. Well, the pump was bad. The new Honda pump was all shiny and new and had a new shiny pulley as well.

While I was there, I noticed the brake fluid looked past it's prime so for $99, which they forgot to charge me for, I had them replace and flush. Took the mechanic all of 20 minutes to do it. Helps when you have the right tools for the job.

Well, the whine is gone, I've got new brake fluid, and I am happy. Now to get those horrible dusty Duralast pads and Chinese rotors off my car. Boy do they make dust. The dealer wanted $331 for the parts for the front. Bernardi is $192. Thanks for reading. And if you're ever in need of dealer work, try Bay Ridge Honda. See my review on Yelp if interested.
