building a coupe!
I just purchased a 95 honda Civic coupe, with 199,XXX miles, new sticker, Rota slipstreams, DC sports header and full exhaust, and a cheesy CAI. picked the car up for $1650 and it came with a front/rear camber kit as well as lowering springs. I'm interested in a new set of struts to put the springs on for a better ride and handling ability, it's got the stock struts and springs in it now. I live in Maine so the conditions can be pretty tough on the susp components. I'm also planning on doing a motor swap this summer and I read some of the stickies and can't decide between the Type R b18 or the GSR b18. I'd imagine the GSR would be a cheaper and easier swap. I'd imagine a GSR swap would cost around $3000 in total (just an estimate) and I don't really have any idea on the Type R. I want to eventually go turbo and I'm wondering if it'd really be worth it to throw in a Type R, or if i would just be better off saving some money with the GSR swap. Or if I've got the completely wrong ideas, I'm just looking for some insight on a swap, and a turbo build. Right now I have the d16 V-tec in it. I'm new to the honda scene and I'm not real knowledgeable in the motor department. and for the Susp i'm just looking for preferences people have. I used to have a BMW 325is E36 with some rokkor coilovers, a Dinan chip, intake, and exhaust, I used it as a little drift car... Now I just want something new to have fun with!
95 coupe is a nice choice.
tokico illumina's are nice
B18C5 is what I use in my 2000 coupe, im NA tho. You want to go turbo if I read correctly. Very different animal and you are correct, do you really want to change up a high compression engine into a low compression one just for a turbo? Hummmm. Not I !
Type r engines are built a tad nicer and some human hand work is/was involved making the engines...I like them better over the GSR setups, personal preference really. They do cost more over the GSR's but I feel its worth the extra bit of money.
Turbos take a ton of planning as well as a ton of money to get them setup correctly...I recommend to go NA until you need more power.

It is not very practical to buy a type r if you are planning on boosting due to the high compression. You would have to replace the internals for a safer compression. Every thing that was done to the type r motor can be done to the gsr.
Imo, the GSR is the route to go if your wanting boost. I just dropped a mint 1998 GSR swap with 80k miles into my '94 hatch that I picked up for $1500. I am going boost in about 3-4 months with a go-autowerks kit. I am only going to install ARP head studs and I am shooting for 300whp which is a safe number on a stock block if you search around on H-T. There are a couple of threads in the FI section that talk about turboing a gsr
I have tokico illumina's with skunk2 sleeves and I was surprised by the ride. It was much better than I expected but I was also coming from a stock suspension with blown shocks. I will be upgrading soon for some better suited for the track.
Both swaps will be about the same difficulty wise to drop in. It was very easy on that note. I have a vx which already had vtec so I literally had to re pin two wires and everything else dropped in with no modifications. You will have more to wire if you use the gsr IM, but still very easy to do.

Very nice, the 92-95 coupes are really starting to grow on me. got any pics of the ride, and if you would, could you tell me what the chassis code is on the coupe? I have been doing several searches but cant find anything on a coupe of them years, but did find out the the (hatch) is EG6 (sedan) is EG8 and (delsol) is EG2 lol
the compression ratios were exactly what I was wondering about. Another question I have would be a good tranny setup for a GSR build. I was also thinking around the 300hp mark for power. I want to go the boost route because I feel like it'd be cheaper for the amount of power I want. I'm just looking to get educated and I've been doing some research as well to get a better understanding of these litttle honda motors. I'm not completely useless, just new to the honda scene, I've been fairly knowledgeable on cars, like i said I'm a big BMW guy just trying to get a good understanding on what works and what doesn't with these
suspension go koni ground control .. lifetime warranty!!!
lmao at the kids about high low compression boost.. check your local tuner see if any1 has tuned high compression boost b4. high compression boost is better but alot less margine for error (which mean your tuner gots to be on point). if your planning on ever building the motor fck type R its just a hype. TYPE R YO. only real difference (wen swaping parts out)is the port and polish from factory on the type R. which if u build ur motor u can just get a better port and polish with the money u save from saying fck type R. here in tampa gsr go for 1k and type R 2500. longblocks. with an extra 1500 i make any gsr spank that R
stock for stock R wins but with the extra 1500 in ur pocket that gsr wont b stock.
as far as tranny stick with gsr .. b16 tranny short wont b in boost long enough make power. ls is good but just stick with gsr just overall better
