Default Help with shocks

My friend who is a Honda tech helped me install some new shocks on
My 1990 Hatch. He installed Tokico Blues and some coil overs to lower the car 1.5 inches. When he was done, it did not turn out well and the car was actually raised. Also the top of the shocks are now sticking way up. He thinks it may be the sleeves, and suggested that the stock sleeves may have to be used. He had to leave and has not had the opportunity to come back to fix them. I am thinking of trying to fix them myself, but have limited knowledge, but have the Internet and a Chilton guide. Just wondering if the problem stems from the sleeves, or it anyone else has had this problem.

Hahahahahaha there's a metal washer that stops the shocks from coming through the top hats... Looks like your friend forgot them..

Doh! I'll take it apart this weekend and find where the washer goes.

Thanks for your help!

Yep, they're super thick, and stepped. If you can't find the ones he left out you'll have to buy them from Honda, regular washers will just bend.

Also the top washers you can see in the pics directly under the nuts are upside down.

Actually looking again it looks like the washers are on there, they are just on top of everything when they should be below everything lol

Thanks for all your help, looking forward to try to fix it this weekend. I am a little confused by the last post about the washer being on top. I was looking at diagrams of shocks and it seems to be correct, please look at the pics below, #6.

Is the washer that I need to put in # 14?

Please forgive my lack of knowledge, I've never worked on shocks before.

I just did a full set of tokico blue shocks and springs. In no way was there any type of play left once springs, dustcover, tophat were put on. In fact I had to enlist a small amount of help to compress the front springs to get hat on.

By chance did he remove the white bump stop on the shock shaft?

I sincerely doubt all 4 of them would break at the same time.. odds have to be like one in a billion.. nope, somebody didn't put them together right.

I worked on the shocks this weekend and everything went well. It was actually a lot easier than I thought it would be. Thank you everyone for all your help, I really appreciate it! Couldn't have done it without your advice! Next project may be to convert the DPFI to MPFI, but need to research it and see if it is worth doing on a 4 speed manual.

Here are some pics of my EF after I fixed the shocks and lowered it:
