Default Coolant temp gauge not working

Ok here's the deal the guy who owned the car before instead of using the obd1 conversion harness he basically made it obs1. Well when I got the car it would start wires were messed up. Well I got it to start. I got all the gauges to work except the temp. It has no power at the cluster. No power at the sensor on the thermostat housing. I don't know where else to check. Any help?

the sender should be a single pin. passenger side of head, below distributor. use a multimeter to test it's resistance. cold, then hot. see if it falls within spec
