cam gears
My buddy owed me some cash so he gave me a set Toda cam gears. My wagovan has a stock gsr motor so i really don't need them but is it best to set them to zero if i am not gonna dyno it or maybe a few degrees that are set in stone. Please no negative comments i am not a noob but cam gears were never part of my builds.
On a completely stock GSR adjustable cam gears are essentially useless. You can shift the powerband around some, but the cams aren't that great for N/A. The thing that helps the GSR out so much is the intake manifold design. Also, if you never needed adjustable cam gears before in your "builds" then you weren't really building anything to begin with.

My point was - yes there are minor gains to be had from tuning the camshafts, but in 90% of the engines with STOCK camshafts they are a WASTE of time and money. The only time you need them for stock camshafts is when you are trying to squeeze out that last drop of power or you are using factory camshafts that aren't suited for your setup. The latter is rare to find with factory camshafts. Adjustable camshafts are mainly only needed for aftermarket camshaft upgrades.
Everyone's opinion on the word "built" is clearly different. In my eyes a "built" engine has been upgraded from throttle body to oil pan. Most people slap some forged internals in the bottom end and now it's "built". That would be referenced as "semi-built". When you do complete valvetrain, rotating assembly, and external bolt-ons THEN I would consider it "built". Again, everyone has their own opinions, but for those of us who pour 10k plus into our builds -engine and transmission alone- we tend to get offended by those who "think" they have/had a "built" engine.
