Default gsr swap help into del sol :(

okay this car /swap has fought me the entire way and why not fight some more .

I took it for a ride and noticed that vtec was ****ed up....Everytime vtec would engage it would sound like the car was choking and not getting any power...(almost like a series of mini backfires).

the rpm tach is all over the place. as soon as hit 5k it would bog. and then gain power. and then check engine light would come on .
the car is a stock gsr . obd1 open header at the moment . . slow as a d series

also to add the car was warming up and when shut off could hear a bubbling sound front the intake manifold and there was water near the manfiold gasket bubbling ;(

Your vtec kicks in at 5k?
Did you drive it at all before you put the ecu back to stock

Smart guy lol....I have a feeling its cuz you have a stock intake mani with butterflies but your trying to use a p28 which is not for that engine. And just so you know there's no such thing as a p70

That's not what I assumed. I assumed you thought your car would be faster open header cuz that's how you made it sound. What chipped ecu will you be trying?

Is your ground on your thermostat on? That always messes with tach if off or loose...

got a new bolt on there and its tight now started up i got a check engine light on so tomorrow ill see what code it is and says idling at 500 area then it drop a little .

someone just said this

I know exactly whats wrong. Its a burnt out rotor and cap contact points inside the distributor. You can try and lightly sand them with 600 grit and see if it helps or just buy a new rotor and cap and your car will run like a champ again.

Can't hurt especially if it's been awhile or you didn't do it when you did the swap.

A stock p28 will run completely different that the gsr is designed to run. The p28 is a single cam ecu it only has vtec for intake. DOHC has vtec for both intake and exhaust. So a dual cam ecu can compensate for the extra air both coming in and going out as for a p28 will only compensate for the air going in. This will cause serious issues as the ecu has no idea whats going on with so much air coming and going. Get the right ecu and go from there.
