I just PASSED emissions/smog with JDM B18C
I was a little surprised that I passed. I live in the state of Maryland. Here is my set-up.
1996 JDM spec Integra Type R swap
RMF Narrow 4-1 header
300 Spun cell cat
2.5 inch custom exhaust piping
Greddy TI-C muffler
Has anyone had any issues passing emissions/smog test with an integra type r or swap?

hmmm interesting. look forward to hearing what other people have to say about this. From my understand i didn't think you could "legally" pass smog with a jdm motor. Just to clarify this im not saying you did anything illegal, i was just stating what i have been told.
Smog and inspection are not the same thing. ANY time you complete a motor swap, it is a federal mandate that you get the new motor inspected by the local DMV. This way the new motor goes on record and a sticker for the swap goes under the hood with the new motor number and appropriate smog info. According to the federal government, NO JDM motor is legal in any US car unless it was specifically imported as a US-spec certified replacement (JDM Honda swaps are not certified replacements). How each state carries out policing this mandate is where the gray area exists. My best friend got his JDM B16A swap black-flagged when he blindly went to the Nevada DMV for inspection after his smog tech recognized the swap and told him he had to have it inspected 1st.
A smog check only checks the emissions of the motor based on the existing label under the hood and/or in the book. Depending on the year make & model, it can be extremely vague what information the smog technician has at hand. For OBD1, 90% of the time all they do is check the label under the hood, and look for the appropriate smog equipment. That usually means EVAP-routing, EGR valve (if applicable), catalytic converter (make sure it's present), and gas cap for air-tight seal. They have no way of knowing what engine code is supposed to be in the car. The only time you get hosed, is if your tech is into Honda swaps and knows the various motors.
Personally, I had one guy that started getting all up my *** as soon as I pulled up. Then I popped my hood and he couldn't believe i still had the stock D15B8 still under the hood... lol
Another time I got hosed because the tech was pissed I brought a really good coupon. Even though the stock CX D15B8 doesn't have an EGR, he failed me because his book said it should. The book clearly said that VX model only should have an EGR. He claimed he had no way of determining what model/engine I had and that I must to go get an inspection at the DMV to proove I didn't need it. He was being a douche.
As far as OBD2 cars go, your pretty much good to go as long as your CEL stays off. The goons simply hook up the probe to the computer and don't even pop the hood (at least here in NV). If the ECU is happy, then the state is happy. Again it all depends on the smog tech, how closely they inspect for smog, and how into Hondas they are.

you can make a jdm itr pass, it just requires more work. the oil pressure sensor on the back of the block, usdm vtec solenoid, usdm oil pump and cfs sensor as well as the usdm evap purge all need to be in place. i've done it before on a p73-a02 ecu but it's more effort than a lot of folks want to go through. you wind up ripping apart so much of the jdm engine you start wondering why you spent 2600 on a long block when you could rebuild your own for that or less

I just need to find someone in MD that will pass an obd2 car for some cash under the table. I can get mine to pass, but it's the effort of changing exhausts, o2 sensors, and ecu's to get it to pass that annoys me. Honestly I'd rather pay $200 or something and be good for two years than have to change everything over. Its been proven time and time again that emissions inspections are nothing more than a money making thing. I'm saying skip all the BS, here's my money, now leave me alone for two years.

I pass with a b18c5 in my GS-R. All i do is put the GS-R ecu in and drive it for a week then go get it smogged. Not that that's really relevant. But i do live in California. Kind of curious if ill pass with skunk2 stage 2 pro cams tho.

Every state is different. I have no clue on the federal level but 94eg! sound like he does. What year is your car? if it is OBD1 in Md all I think they do is have you pass a sniffer, I passed one with my b16a in a CRX many years ago no problem.
If it is OBD2 you can still fail in some states without a check engine light. I learned this in Va this year. I have a JDM B16A running a P2T 00 SI computer. I bypassed the FTP sensore by sending 2.5V to the ECU. This is great for not throwing an check engine light, but when the car starts up the OBD2 system will not run properly. The ECU throw a variation in the voltage to the system and checks for that variation to make sure that everything is running correctly. Because it never sees the variation the OBD2 evap system never comes online and I can not pass emissions without it online. Some states will let you not have 1 or 2 systems not online depending on the year of the car. In Va only a few counties require emissions and you must have all systems online and no check engine for it to pass.

Move to Indiana. There isn't a gray area here, its all black. You could swap in an apache turbo shaft jet in and nobody is going to question you.
Like I said Im in Cali, and my b18c5 passes in my GS-R with a GS-R ecu.

Do you live in NorCal or SoCal? I hear that NorCal they're way more stricter than in SoCal.
I have a 94 EG hatch and running a B18C5 here in Cali. I got tagged by a pig abour 2 months ago. I'm just about done making the swap legal here. Just need the cat. I'll repost when it passes so you all could know. Plus every state is different.
