b16 cable trans issues
hey guys so i got a situation here.
First off I have a second gen b16a swap in a 91 hatch. With a ls cable trans. The trans grinded like a monster, on pretty well every gear. So i picked up a b16 cable trans off a buddy for cheap. I got it for cheap cuz he wanted to keep the Aftermarket lsd out of it. So i figure ah well ill just put the stock ls trans open diff into the b16 cable trans for now. So i had both trannys up on my work bench, split them both, gutted both and swapped the diffs. Now i put all the b16 trans pieces/parts/shafts all back together and sealed it up. Now i have a problem. When i "bench test" the trans it spins fine, shifts through 1st,2nd,3rd, and 4th. But if i try to shift it into reverse or 5th, it doesnt seem to shift into the gear completely, and is very very hard to pop back out into neutral. I split the case back open, checked everything over, everything seems fine, i swapped the ls trannys shift mechanism, the reverse shift piece aswell. Plopped the case back together, and still the same problem. Do you guys have any idea what it could be? im so frustrated confused.

If you had it apart then you saw the mechanism for that set of gears. Obviously there is more resistance in those gears and you are typically sitting in a car with a mechanical linkage for leverage. Think about it.
yeah but i put the trans in the car and it would not work in 5th and reverse. By the way i figured out the problem, and the trans is back in the car and operating perfectly now. What it was, is the ring that the shift fork for 5th gear was on, was jammed onto the gear it slides on, because it only lines up a certain way, ( had to pull it apart and spin it til it slid together)
