Default over revving question.

Ok, so I have an OBDI jdm h22a swapped into my 96 prelude that was originally OBDII(the 92-95 4th gens were OBDI, and i have the odd ball... lucky me.)

Anyway, the stock redline, at least on usdm models, is 7200, and the fuel cut is 7500. i was screwing around yesterday and noticed that in first gear i can rev to at least 7800, and there is no fuel cut...

What I want to know is whether or not this is bad for my engine to rev this high on stock internals. I'm hoping not, because it keeps me a lot closer to my peak horsepower if i rev that high before shifting. This in turn will bring down my 1/4 mile time.

A stock H22a actually peaks earlier than that. It actually peaks around 6500. Every engine is slightly different, but your would be close as well. Now if you have changed anything like cams, or header then you might shift your peak point.

Don't believe what the tachometer is telling you, it becomes more inaccurate the higher it counts.

I thought the USDM limiter was 8200? Given, that motor DOES NOT make power there, and there is absolutely no reason to shift that high. Notice thread, after thread, after thread, of spun bearing H22's. Think about why that could be? Just think.

Thats kind of what I was thinking... wikipedia says different ones can rev as high as 8 though... but i know wiki is also a hit-and-miss on its accuracy sometimes.

I also found this:

H22A
200 PS (147 kW; 197 hp) @ 6,800 rpm & 161 lb·ft (218 N·m) @ 5,500 rpm

So If I shift at 8k or just before i drop down to about 6k rpm.. which means I'm going from 1k under my peak power to 1k over.. which to me seems better than shifting at 7500 which is putting me around 1.5k under my peak to just .5k over.. so basically staying farther from my peak.
