Default Tapping into a wire that is always powered?

I want to install a lighter socket to power my iPhone so that I can use my XM radio app and the XM Skydock and be able to use the pause feature for when I am in and out of the car for my job. The problem with the already provided power port is that it shuts off when the car is turned off making the XM radio pause feature worthless.

I would like to install this new socket so that it stays live when I turn off the car but I am nit sure where to look. Can anyone pint me in the right direction? I don't want to run any wires to the battery. Not worried about battery drain since it will only be used for 10-12 hours a day while working.

1999 Accord LX sedan

Thanks

Tapping into the lighter or the radio memory circuit would usually be a constant battery voltage power source. Can't say for sure what or where the wires are until I know what car we are dealing with here. I'm going to assume that it is an Accord between the years of 1990-2002.....

You can tap into the RED/WHT wire going into the lighter relay (15amp). Or tap into the radio memory wire. It is the WHT/YEL wire (7.5amps).

Sorry, it's a 1999 Accord LX sedan.

Use this site, it will give you every wire/color you need to know on your car. It would be easiest to use the constant power/12v coming from your radio. If the radio is stock it will give you that color of that wire, if it is an aftermarket radio then it will be the RED wire plugged into the radio.

Most Accords are set up the same. Not sure about wire colours for the 6th gen (98-02), the following are for 90-97 Accords. You can check them out ans see. You could tap into the RED/WHT wire going into the lighter relay (12v - 15amp). Not the one coming out and going to the lighter, that only has power when the ignition is on. Or you could tap into the radio memory wire. It is the WHT/YEL wire (12v - 7.5amps).

To add to what ghost posted, diagram for the 6th gen power socket. The yellow coming into the relay is hot at all times (#54 40amp underhood)
