Great if you want to make your car look like you recently got into a collision and havn't had the time to paint your new body panels.

Ahhhhh this is the new thing. I'm going outside to Plastidip my whole CAR!!!!!

 

Its actually already getting pretty popular. Not really in the Honda scene though. Guys just seem to like it because its tough stuff and easy to remove.

Mostly emblems, grilles, and wheels are what I've seen sprayed

I sprayed the front grille on my DD odyssey. It had been previously been painted black and was chipping very badly(paint never sticks to chrome, but plastidip does). It looked horrible. Its been on for a few months already and hold up very well.

since it peels off...wouldnt rock chips rip it?

 

Its more durable that paint because it keeps kind of a soft, rubbery finish. So rocks and debris usually just bounce off. It doesn't chip.

I suppose it can rip or tear, but it doesnt happen easily.

So I guess the nice thing about it is, its easily reversible and it actually protects whats underneath.

 

Not like it would have helped, but the hood comes off with 4 bolts.

Would have saved alot of time from masking the car up.

Isn't this stuff rather pricey? I'd imagine at least 6$ a can. Probably took 4 cans to do just a hood. That's 25$ right there. I can get a quart of real automotive urethane for the same price (albeit low-end stuff, but urethane nonetheless) for around the same price.

They make it in clear too, so if you were gonna go on a road trip you could spray it on to prevent rock chips.

I wanted to paint the little bit of the fenders so I could show how easily it comes off, And most of all i just wanted to see what it looked like.

It would be good for guys who want to see what there wheels will look like black without having to actually paint them - and if it looks like garbage they can peel it off.

Be careful with the clear stuff, especially on newish cars. Paints offgas for a while and trapping that gas in their can cause MAJOR problems down the road (ever seen a fresh painted car with a bra on it? There's a reason for that.)

That being said, if you like that kind of look, go for it. At least it is reversible!

How durable is this stuff? I would think since it is rubberized that it is fairly durable. I actually am considering using it for some misc engine brackets in my bay.

 

But the ability to just peel it off when your tired of it, is whats so nice. Cant do that with actual paint.


Maybe a freshly painted car, but I dont think there are any problems with new cars. The Honda dealer that I worked at spray clearbra on brand new cars all the time. There were never any problems.


This will never catch on because using blue painters tape has become so fashionable. haha

 

I think for wheels it's a decent idea, and I'm thinking the black plastic lips that came on the older honda's might look good with this. Especialy since you can peel it off. As for body pannels, i don't thinkg that will ever catch on at all...

last time i saw an ad for this stuff, it was like $10 a can. lol

 

I did my 5s and it was easy to do while still on the car. You dont have to worry about overspray, as it just peels off of the tires and body. Just masked off the rotors/calipers and went to town!
