Default Project: Caged 96' GSR

Hey guys, I'm new here. Just picked up my first Honda about a week ago. I love it! it has NO rust, absolutely NONE.

My plans are to ITB it or possibly boost. I'm not 100% sure yet. Just finishing up some work the previous owner didn't get done and cleaning it up a bit. Lots to be done.

I know the car is dirty, I haven't washed it yet. I will soon and also will be polishing and waxing. I plan on putting a JDM front end on it here pretty soon along with a full repaint.

some pics: sorry they kinda suck, all I have is my phone for pics.

Along with the stickers, get rid of the rear wheel arch "protectors", now if you pull them off and there is no rust, good find. 94

Nice! Adriatic Blue Pearl? Hard to tell with those pics, but that was the color of my 97 LS.

I plan on taking those protectors off. I've had the car on the lift at work already and couldnt find not a spec of rust on it so far, I'm willing to bet its clean under those too.

I paid 5k for it. It has 122k on it and runs better than any n/a 4 cylinder I've ever seen or driven.

Stickers are going ASAP, as soon as I have it registered in nys

Not too sure on color, its a darkish green, possibly considered a blue. I haven't actually looked up the color.

just read you plan on going JDM front, good ****

Your stock compression is a little bit too low for ITB's. You will probably end up losing power with ITB's with stock internals. And lots of tuning involved.

98 rear is in the plans, and a 98+ usdm with oem type r lip if i can get it cheap enough til I get the jdm setup.

The exhaust is the rest of the evo2. It belongs on the car. It doesnt fit right. May not be for a teg. It's open header right now. Will fix it at work when i have it on the lift soon.

Haha its not terribly bad. Vtec is insanely loud. My old project (3l swapped 98 SVT Contour) was always.open header because that v6 sounded like sex. This is pretty drony but not horrible. It screams past 6k. But I can't wait to hear how the evo2 sounds.

did a bit of further weight reduction today, Removed cruise control computer and cable, removed all PS (filled rack and capped it back off). removed All A/C, removed lower driverside torque mount. I was told with my Hasport mounts I would be ok, is this true?

I also fixed a bunch of ghetto things. like the alarm/remote start. I removed ALL the twisted/taped wires and replaced it with solder/heatshrink. I mounted the boxed solidly under the dash, as well. I fixed my turn signals, my blower switch, hot/cold selector, Horn. and cleaned the interior up more.

tomorrow I will fix the leaks, my tail light gaskets leak. along with take my cage out and repaint it. then I will be scouring a junkyard for some carpet (I'd like atleast the front to be carpet)

This used to be my car. Be sure the Hasport mounts are torqued down correctly and you will be fine. The reason for the alarm wiring being half *** is because thieves ripped it out when they tried to steal it for the 7th time. I had to get working again asap and just sold it before they eventually got it.

It is a nice lil' project, check out my photo album on it and you will see how it came together from when I bought it stock last year. Interior changed to black, went through 4 sets of seats, 2 different cages, 7 different sets of rims in about a year. But I only put about 6k miles in it, since it was my 3rd car.

Although I'm not in this forum much I will keep in touch and let me know if you want to know more about it. I am finishing up my new car. 1993 240sx Convertible with RB25DET. Full real Origin Stylish kit and 19' Work Euroline DH some other goodies.

Geez, Im hoping I don't run into thieves here, I was eyed pretty steady the first day I drove it around home, though.

I need to post updated pics. The interior has had a huge make over. Every exposed body panel has been painted black (bedliner). Not the crazy texture stuff. It's a little like fine grit sand paper. Added front carpet, cleaned my seats up. Got all the cage bolted down. And the Megan h brace installed.

Brides, Takatas and a cage will get you some looks, lol. Put some more kill switches in it and block it in. I look forward to the updated pics

I went the long route with the alarm, every single wire is black, box is pretty well hidden. And with the cage and seats you need to stand on your head stuck under the wheel to see it. Not ideal for a thief. Haha, I'll grab some pics today.

small update, ive gotten a lot done but haven't taken many pics, so heres 1 pic of some of what i've gotten done along with a short vid I took of it. yes, I suck at driving. still not use to driving this, and in my defense driving while holding a camera is pretty difficult. haha.

I stripped ALL the sound deadening, removed ALL the rear seat backets and plastic mounting brackets because I never plan to use them again. painted the fuel pump covers (kinda ricey, flat red.. most likely change it). I painted the cage flat black, not done yet, still parts to finish. the rear of the car was sprayed with Rustoleum bed liner, it's a very nice texture, and not at all glossy or gloppy like most bedliners are. I think it gives the car a more uniform finish and looks a bit more complete..

here's the vid, it was a soft launch and i hit the limiter in first.

Well, finally got the Greddy EVO2 on today, and much to my surprise It sounds..well, amazing. Nothing like my buddy's 95 gsr with the same exhaust. I guess my extra resonator and resonated test pipe make it.sound fantastic. It's very mellow, and deep, vtec sings, It's super crisp. And not loud at all. I absolutely love it.

well, sort of an update. Did some cleaning/repainting.

removed all the stickers and what not, got the full exhaust on. repainted valve cover/intake manifold. Fixed some loose/broken bolts from previous owner..

used VHT wrinkle black and baked it for half an hour. It turned out pretty damn good! looks almost OEM, a few mess ups but not bad for my first time. I wanted to do red like a type R but I liked the GSR black more.

and a shot of the interior, needs cleaned again. It's dirty, its my daily driver at the moment.

also got some parts coming. AEM wideband o2 for my wideband gauge, if you look close you can barely see it mounted where the factory dimmer switch went. Also ordered a si-vtec lip, ITR throttle cable, RC440 injectors (got an amazing deal on them), walbro 255lph, and hondata s200. cant wait to get it on the dyno and tuned.

full wire tuck is next, or atleast get my HID ballasts out of view. I threw them in quick and just havent gotten around to mounting them where i actually wanted them.

^thanks. It could have been better, my next attempt will be better.

did a full wire tuck on driverside, and a partial til I get a 40/40 prop valve to delete ABS.

got my injectors, fuel pump and hondata.. Next is getting an ETS top mount manifold and piecing together the rest of my turbo kit. Hoping to have the car boosted by the end of summer!

then the car will be stripped completely down and resprayed, it needs its pretty bad.
