LOOSE ALT BELT.....
NORMALLY YOU ONLY SEE THAT WHEN... (remove the caps lock...) vehicle is sitting at idle and lights, etc drop (especially if you have an ammeter). I would suspect that you would hear squeeling with a loose belt. You more than likely have a bad battery with a shorted cell. Easy way to find out which it is:
Test alternator output with voltmeter - on output stud
Take battery in to store and have them do a load test

...just busting your nuts...
OK, than your belt is loose. I would probably pick up a new set since you will be in there anyways replacing the alt belt. Its probably toast, glazed, stretched, etc.
