Default Sort of a newb to the tuning world, getting ready to buy my own software: Ectune Pro

Greetings Honda Tech Tuners.

I'm a noob to the tuning world so any comments are welcome, just don't bash on me too hard. :/

I've read an engine management system book by Matt Cramer, and Jerry Hoffman "Performance Fuel injection" and the instructions on how to build your own EFI. It pretty much drew down the basics on what goes on inside the powerhouse. Plotting down stuff like Ignition, Fuel Injection, what all the sensors do and how they monitor and control their in's and out's, etc.

I have the Hulog, and the Ostrich. Now to make things short and simple. I wanted to go with Ectune. My question was, does the Ectune pro license come with everything I need ? Or am I going to have to buy any additional features to make it work. Some guy I was talking to said if I buy the 200 dollar software off of their website, that I need to buy an extra license ? I'm really confused. Thought the "PRO" package retailed at $200 came with everything I need ?

1 eCtune license per Ostrich... email Calvin on the eCtune forums or Chris @ Xenocron for the best help.

You have everything that you need for hardware. All you need now is the software and the reg string/license. The license is specific to your Ostrich and it will only work on the one. If you want to tune multiple cars you will need to purchase a new license for each.

If you are looking to talk to someone, I would suggest Chris at Xenocron.com.

http://www.xenocron.com/aboutus.php

Phone, Fax & email are all there under Contact/Ship To info. It's just above Purchase Gift Certificates

What is it that you need to know?

http://www.xenocron.com/ectune-pro-s...nse-p-304.html

Download the software, pay them for the license and they send it to you.

They also do send out the software within a package with a CD right ? Because I'd rather upload it from a cd to my laptop. But if I have to download it after I pay for it then i'll do it like that.

BTW, how much does the pro license usually run just for 1 ostrich ?

You can actually down load the software for free before you purchase the license. You can't datalog or connect with an Ostrich without registering your ostrich/license though.

Download it for free and burn it to a disk, that's what I did. Here is the software link from the eCtune site; http://websrv.ectune.com/ectune.setup.current.zip

For 1 Ostrich or Demon Pro license it is $199.

Okay, so when I download the license I pretty much have everything I need then right ? I dont have to buy anything additional for it. I apologize but I'm a noob tuner, and I am really wanting to get into this kind of stuff.

I did read the fundementals on how things work tuning wise, as I am reading another advanced book by greg banish on advanced engine management systems as we speak.

It said I need to run somekind of force update. I ran the force update from the startup menu, but it says that the WebUpdate failed with error: "Access to path ... ectune.chm" denied.

I just installed the software on a brand new laptop with no issues. I do not have a registration or license for it ether.

After the download did you install the .Net framework? It is the file named Setup. You install that first and it will install eCtune setup after it is done installing.

Yeah, i installed the file name in that folder from that link after I downloaded the link that you gave me. Unzipped it, and clicked on windows installer setup known as eCtune setup.

I don't recall anything with .Net Framework ? Is it the type known as application in the folder ?

Yes, you need to install the one with the file name "Setup" before you install the eCtune setup file.

Okay I got everything taken care of. Ordered the license, and getting ready to tune next week.

Is PGMFI.org a good website for tuning assistance purposes ?

I found it invaluable for hardware information. Never really used it much for tuning info myself. I'm sure there are some threads in there with good tuning info in them. Research and read, just like you are doing already. When it comes to learning to tune, stick with small corrections once you start.

Go over the software completely before physically starting to tune a car. Anything that you don't understand, look it up and do research on the complete topic. Any time you bump into something you don't fully understand, do the same. That's what I have always done. I found it easier to search and read everything myself. It helps a lot knowing how all the sensors work and what any changes to maps do before you start.

If you have specific questions you could PM someone that you feel might be able to help you. Better to do it that way, it will keep any of the "know it all's" from telling you to use the search function and not giving you any actual help.

Good luck

Well noted.

Research is key like you were saying, but development takes trial and error . The neat thing I like about eCtune that it's got a little help section in the top that guides you pretty much through a step by step process. It tells you what to clarify, and is pretty much straight forward and direct towards the topics that it has.

Basic Tuning a basemap: for the dedicated gearhead, that doesn't have problems diagnosing a car, and can specifically address how a 4 stroke works as far as making power, and knowing how to respect it's safety can be a cake walk. This is why I feel confident enough.

It's not really that hard to tune, if you know the theory and have the proper tools before you start. It takes practice to get good at it. Just like anything else.

True! Very well said, if one is dedicated to the sport he loves he can accomplish anything. Proper tools is key and getting the right software to tune gives the user the opportunity to avoid complicated paths. Ectune is so much easier to use than Crome IMO.

I though that the Pro Demon/Ostrich were the same reg..... It pairs itself with the emulator serial number, be it the demon or the ostrich. I could be wrong....but I enter my Ostrich emulator serial in the serial tab and the vendor ID switches over to eCtune.
