ZC vtec conversion with mini-me nauseau
Good day All,
I've spent the last few days pooring through everything I can search in the forums and FAQs and quite frankly feel nauseated by all the alphabet soup I'm reading.
I'm trying to find out which head I need to do a vtec conversion?
I have a 1.6 ZC SOHC non-vtec in my 90 CRX and currently running obd0.
My understanding is the ZC is essentially a d-series block. Is this correct? -and if so, what head should I be looking for to convert to vtec? -and can I convert to DOHC or do I have to stick with the SOHC?
Once I know what head(s) will work, I think I understand the other necessary parts, obd0 to 0bd1 jumper, obd1 distributor, etc.
Thanks all in advance for any contributions.
Links are fine but please understand that I've read everything I can find related to this in the forums and FAQs here and it's very confusing. I'd really just like a straight answer, in fact, if you want to just complete this sentence:
You need a ____________ head.

SOHC ZC non VTEC = D16A6 generally speaking
For VTEC you'll want either a D16Z6 head or a D16Y8 head.
For DOHC D-series you can "attempt" a DOHC ZC head swap but it is not a bolt on affair. It will require some planning and machining on your part if you really absolutely have to have a DOHC head swap on an SOHC D-series block.

Thank you very much.
I don't have to have the DOHC, just needed a clear answer on the option. Sounds like a good deal of work to make that happen on the d-series block. Just out of curiosity do you know if it's been succesfully done?

It has been although people will always debate the pros/cons of doing such a thing. If you google it, you'll find it on another forum with pictures. I intend to attempt it myself soon.
