Default New to Honda - 91 Civic STD HB ( D15B1 )

Im new to the Honda world and bought a 91 Civic Hatch Standard with a D15B1 engine. The guy said that one of the cylinders is not working because he had it tested and showed me the papers and which cylinder it is. I replaced the spark plugs and noticed one plug had oil all over it on the spark end of it like it was sitting in a pool of oil. Also replaced the battery and she fires right up and I can drive it but I want to replace the piston rings on that one cylinder but the car has 170k miles and I am pretty sure its all original nothings been replaced other than the belts..

Would it be a waste of money to buy an Engine rebuild kit off ebay ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/220698371323 )

I only bought the car to go to and from work and save a ton of money on gas, I didnt buy it because race car

My gas guzzler is a 09 Mazda Speed 3 and a 06 Jeep GC HEMI . 140$/week for one and 200$+/week for the other would like to transform that to $20/week or less.

If you have the skill, tools and times rebuild back to stock or beef up the bottom end for future turbo plans or just a more stout n/a motor. But rebuild or go z6 and rebuild.

theres a chance that it is only the head as well. my d15b1 was just like that too, no compression in one cylinder, had oil all over the plugs. pulled the head off and it was a burnt valve.

I took the head off and dropped it off @ Napa they are cleaning it and replacing all the seals should get it back soon. I figure if i'm going to have that cleaned and basically back to factory condition I might as well replace the pistons and rings to cancel the bad rings out as well.

Take the bottom end to a machine shop have it checked

Go to honda for bearings n rings n head gasket

Don't reuse your old head bolts

Either get new oem ones from honda or get arp head studs
