answered my own question after a lot of digging around:
only the front ones would fit.....

No, but sedan will fit as coupes and sedans use the same rear bumper. The fronts are all the same between coupe, hatch and sedan.

 

With a little massaging, I was able to get rear flaps from a sedan to fit on my
hatch quite well.

That actually does fit quite well

The tailights are the same too. The front of the coupe is identical to a hatch back to the back of the front doors, from there back its a mix of coupe specific and sedan parts. This combined with it being released a year after the hatch and sedan tells me it was probably an afterthought designed on the cheap using as many available parts as possible.

 

Interesting observation. The fact that there was no coupe in '92 does make that seem likely. I think
we have talked about this before...
