Default y8 swap and smog questions

I have a 2000 dx that needs a rebuild, but thought I might go with a y8 swap since I only want to spend about 500-700 if I can

The only reason I don't swap to b series is because I have no money, and I don't think I'll be keeping my car for too much longer.

I've read about smogs regarding mini me's but that's about all there is, and I guess I wouldn't see why a d16y8 full swap wouldn't pass...

So so far I've heard that as long as all the emission components for the y8 is up to spec and present, that should pass-correct?

Does it also have to be the same year, or can it be any 96-00 engine?

I'm pretty set on selling it, so I'd rather just swap in a new engine so I don't have to worry about the damn o2 code that won't ever go off and the low compression... I know that I could rebuild, but since some vtec engines are nearly the same price as the dx and the same price as getting the rebuild, I would just get that instead.

What is your guy's opinions on the best way to go now?

Living in Cali sucks, so if I have to (and it seems like I will) I'll just keep the car pretty much stock.

Swap in a Y7 if you're going to sell it. Makes no sense to do otherwise if you aren't keeping it. Plug-N-Play.
