Sup all

I have 2 catalytic converters from a Civic Dx. I know one works perfect and will pass smog, the other needs the threads refurbished on the primary o2 sensor port.
I put them on craigslist for someone that needs them but I keep getting calls from what seems like people that just want to dismantle them.

A few weeks ago some guy made a thread in which a company online bought his catalytic converter and gave him cash. Anyone know that site?

Aren't there trace bits of platinum in the catalyst? Check any local recyclers (if I'm right).

Check at your local scrap yards, sometimes you will get anywhere from 50 to 100 a piece for cats, but usually they require you to have some proof of where you got them from like a title. That could be 200 dollars in your pocket right there.

I scrap cars all the time and we always cut the cat off when we take it up to the scrap yard and it always adds a good bit of cash on top.

Do you have to have proof of ownership? I have my buddy's old cats in my garage that I've been meaning to throw away (they aren't needed here)

+1.

How do you prove this came out of your car?

Honda cat is NOT stamped with VIN. I have junk DX cat and wouldn't mind an extra $75 in my wallet. A random car title doesn't seem like proof. Everyone has one.

If I have to have picture taken, I'll pass. None of their business.

Don't know how it works where your from but in pa just go to a scrap yard/ recycler and show your dl when you check out and you should be good as long as your not bringing like 10+ cats..... catalytic converter theft use to be very high cause some cats can bring the upwards of 150-300 a pop depending on size.

How'd we get here? Call around. Ask questions. It's different in every area.

Its from my old hatch. I have the insurance papers and registration haha.

I would much rather sell them to someone that needs them but im just getting calls from people that want their insides. I put them both on craigslist for $100 together so well see what happens.

I worked at a shop a few years back and they had a deal with a scrapper, he'd come by every friday and buy whatever the techs had for 50/each. Every week it was a good 3-400 for each tech. Obviously we pushed cat convertors (doesnt hurt being in the rust belt either)

Recyclers are your best bet. Here in NY they post on craigslist....want your old cats, etc.

you used to be able to get 150 for a foriegn cataliytic converter. until people were running up in walmart parking lots and car dealerships and cutting them off to scrap. now u only get anywhere form 50-75 bux for them.
