Default Cold Air Intake vs Mugen air box on 2000 Si

So I have an Injen CAI on my car already, and got this Mugen air box for a steal and was wondering if the Mugen air box is worth the time to replace my Injen one. Mind you I dont want to put it on just cause its Mugen I wanna know if the Mugen one will give similar gains. I looked online and I know it gives better throttle response but beyond that couldnt find much else.

Story has no bearing on the question just still kinda pumped I got a great deal. I got lucky on the part I was driving to friends when I saw some 60 year old gentleman laying out a bunch of honda parts today for a garage sale. Pulled over talked to the guy a bit to see what the parts came off of and what he knew about the parts...he said it was off a 2000 black honda but must have been made in mexico cause it said yes on the back "Si"(I love old people). So I look over the parts and find a Mugen air box, a Mugen header, and a set of red Recaro seats. There where other parts but these where the only things that caught my eye. asked what he would take for the header and air box he said $200 bucks. I obviously said yes but as I am not one to wanna rip off an old guy told him he could get at least $500 for just the header, he said he didnt care it was his grandsons crap thats been taking up space in his garage for 3 years so I could have it for $200. Would have taken the Recaro seats as well but they were in **** shape, dirty as hell and had a dozen cigarette burns between them. So I made out like a bandit today!

Does it still have the aluminum velocity stack and filter? The Mugen is a good piece. It does make power. Def worth swapping out the Injen. Post up some pics.

The mugen intake is said to be one of the best.

Honestly, I would keep the intake, sell the header.

Just curious why would you sell the header?

I just finished a B18C Type R swap into my car a few months ago and still using the Type R header so the Mugen header would be an upgrade for me, so ill be putting it on later today.

Sell the header because it really will net you not a lot of power and you could sell it for some coin to some some Honda Mugen nut and get a cheaper Ebay one.

x2 use the cash for anything else you want, btw just a friend FYI - don't get any painted black Ebay headers, they'll turn white after a week, stick with 304 SS polished.

An upgrade over the type r? Sure. but, you can do better then the mugen header.

Sell that header, and buy a better header. This is just my opinon.

Bumping a month old thread to disagree with the earlier posters. The Mugen header is only beaten by the Toda header as far as off-the-shelf headers go. It will make more power than any of the ebay replicas. I'd keep it personally.

More power as in how much? Overall? Neglible.

Its an insignificant gain over the itr header, in fact those are really well designed, that mugen header will look sexy in there tho. Id prolly keep it too.

You are totally correct. However...

The Mugen header is hard to beat as far as quality goes, and he can use the Mugen for a few years, and then turn around and sell it for 90% of what he bought it for... possibly more if he got a good deal. Ebay replicas don't have a very good resale value.

He certainly won't be able to find a header that makes MORE power for the money. Plus as someone mentioned, the Mugen will look sexy in there.
