opinions on turbo or all motor
i just rode in my friend's wrx. Ive never riden in a turbo car. I was pretty impressed by it. lately ive been thinking on wether to go all motor or turbo. what are the pros and cons of turbo? since at the local shop i go to. Everyone there is telling me to go turbo. I currently have a 1.8 in a hatch. And from the people there and just seeing all there cars i feel like the slowest one. They kept explaining that for all motor you spend so much money buying little parts. And with all the money spent, it could of gone towards turbo.
[QUOTEwhat are the pros and cons of turbo? [/QUOTE]
cons: tuning, turbo lag, parts ie hoses coming off, boost = lots of torque which turns into traction issues.
pros: loads of torque, makes a car fast for relatively low $$$$$$.
i didnt go turbo because of the hype associated with it. just because u bolt on a turbo doesnt mean u r fast. making a turbo run to its potential is the key. theres also alot more respect associated with an NA car vs turbo car. when an NA powered car takes out a turbo car who do u think gets the respect??? when a NA car loses to a turbo car what do ppl say??? o well, the other car had boost.
another misconception. depending on the build of the NA motor is what costs the money. u can add mild cams, basic bolt ons and tuning work like ECU to any car and make substantial gains which basically means u dont have to "buy the little parts". now if u want to go all out NA that means, total rebuild. new rods, pistons, cams, valve springs, valves, cam gears, intake mani, injectors, bearings, seals basically everything.

Yeah NA can be spendy, so can turbo. Yeah turbo is "cool", NA is respectful. There is no NA kit on the market, that I know of. NA is all about tuning and you. What do you want? What can you do? Turbo is "oh I'm not as fast as Johnny, I'll just turn the boost up..." NA is "I'm not as fast as Johnny cause I didn't tune correctly... maybe if I lean it out here and fatten it here I can be faster..." I know you have to tune FI cars as well but you get the jist of what I am saying here. You really gotta think about what is more important to you.
If you don't give a **** about what people say when you win a race just turbo it.... although if your vein and egotisticall and demand respect of somekind when you kill a car, especially a turbo go NA..
If your only asking for opinions, turbo of course I'm biased

thanks for you opinions.
im still thinking and reviewing on turbo. as of right now i have ctr camshafts just laying around, but im still not sure wether to install them. i love the genuine sound of vtec, but if i have turbo i wont hear it anymore. I trust NA, rather than turbo. for right now im going to do my research, save my money, but im still thinking.
i have a thought on the back of my mind to probably sell my car.
either get a tt supra or just a bike. but then again that will take while. its just the thought that counts imo. its pretty nice on what kinds of things you can think of.

Go turbo, unless you like racing. All my friends with turbo rarely get intoraces anymore. Nobody wants any. The pros and cons are that a high compression all motor car can actually have less hp and way higher cylinder pressures, making it less reliable than turbo. Gas milage will increase with a turbo, after you learn not to floor it everywhere you go. Power per dollar is unbeatable with turbo. The only con I can think of is a turbo smog legality, but if you dont care, turbo is the way to spend your money. And, no the vtec sound doesnt go anywhere.
You'll smoke most all motor cars with one mod. if its a turbo.
