Ok, so I've been looking for awhile and finally just decided to write a post and see what kinds of tips I can get. After all this place is like the bible when it comes to Honda's Haha.

I'm just curious which b20 engine would be the best to use for a b20vtec? I plan on using a b16a head. It's going to be N/A. I'm just curious if there's much of a difference between any of them as far as crankshafts, cylinder walls, and anything else I may need to look for when trying to put this project together?

A high compression B20, they came in the B20B and the B20Z. The B20Z has the P8R head which makes no difference on doing a B20V since the head is coming off.

ok stupid and unrelated question... how do i get the little cartoon version of my car in my signature? I've been looking all morning but cant figure it out...

 

Prelude si got b20a. I would go with a b20b with gsr head. Ur gonna do na so the gsr head got smaller combustion chambers and with the 2.0 liter from the b20b and a gsr head is like a gsr thats a 2.0 with a better stroke. Put type r cams in it and that will make the car gain more horse.

The prelude b-series block won't work... not designed for the b series vtec head

 

99-01 B20B(JDM)
99-01 B20Z(USDM)

 

The P8R higher flow head (because it uses larger valves, same as the ones found in vtecheads).....this head was ONLY found on low compression earlier model B20B JDM models

And thanks guys for all the info on the engines! Incredibly helpful. Now I just have to figure out how to do an inexpensive wiring harness swap. Is there some way to step down to an obd1 harness? Or do i have to find a 99-00 civic si harness? It's going in a 95 EJ1.
