Default Skunk Pro 1 cams

I am still kinda new to the forum thing here. I tried to search for my answer but didn’t really see anything to help out much. My question is does anyone have an install instruction on these cams? I know the basic install itself but what about the dialing in part. I was told to check the clearances that’s all. I was under the impression skunk would mail a paper letting you know where to set your cam gears. Never received anything like that though. The sheet I got gave me the cam specifications, tappet clearance and the opening peak and closing of both the intake and exhaust cams. I tried to contact skunk but all you do is get a voicemail anymore. I left a message over a week ago and still never got a call back. I had a local guy tell me to set the intake cam at -1 and the exhaust cam at +3. Once again it was just a local guy and I would like to get a little more clarification on that before doing so. I was also told before that I will need to check the piston clearances. Do you really need to pull the head off just to install these cams? I was hoping all I needed to do is adjust the valves to the .007 on the intake and .008 on the exhaust like this paper is saying. If anyone would be willing to give me some info it would be appreciated. Also I apologize if there are other articles done that I just didn’t see.

there is no magical number that works. you use the cam card and degree, as every motor is different.

Im assuming since u went with the pro 1 cams you are using a turbo. If you have low compression pistons your clearances should be fine. I would start your cam gears out at zero zero and work from there. Every settup is going to be different so u cant really go off how someone else has their cam gears set. Hope this helps.

The lifts on P1s are extreme enough that you need to check your clearances. If you have a common piston you can probably ask around and find out what people have used, but you'd be safest if you figure out the clearances yourself.

My setup is going for a turbo although the motor is not done yet. It has been a work in progress for me. My next step is going to be the bottom end but i am going to be around 10.1/1 cr. I currently have a type r b18c5 and the stock cr is 10.7/1. would you stil say i should be save with the piston?
