Default distributor testing issue

1994 honda civic ex coupe

no spark at the plugs

took distrubutor cap off

took voltmeter put negative end on negative battery terminal held the positive by/and on coil spring... no juice at all while cranking the car over.

put volt meter on the + and - wires screwing into the coil to test the ignitor (dont know if this is a sure way to test ignitor). turned car over; no juice from that either

NEXT i unplugged distributor, put the positive in with the green/yellow connector on the wiring harness then put the negative end on negative battery terminal.turned car over and got some spikes.

which im glad to see im getting some voltage, is this the right method to put the voltmeter with green/yellow and then on negative battery terminal to test voltage coming into the distributor?
what volts should it be reading?

Default Re: distributor testing issue

This should be the same on a OBD-2 but I'm not sure.

So here is how to test your coil in the distributor.
You will need a multimeter.

Primary: .5 to .9
Secondary: 12.80 to 19.20

In my case it was not the coil is was the Igniter.
This part was about $100 so I just replace the whole distributor for $165. (Refurbished from Autozone)..

I'm not sure what the ohms specs are on the Igniter, I just know there wasn't any reading so it was bad..
