Just bought my first prelude, 1991 Prelude Si 4ws. Little help?
hello, so im up here in northern michigan and im kind of a total newbie, ive had two other hondas which i loved and i just bought myself a 1991 Prelude Si 4ws. the all wheel steering is awesome, however i was lied to when i bought the car and it leaks oil/ smokes. my mechanic wants to just swap it, so im left with finding a replacement. any resources would be amazing or a list of motors that would work with this chassis. He quoted me around 400 for the swap itself so potentially i would have up to 800 to get another motor.
another question, with a motor swap, the transmission/transaxle is left in typically? so you would just be getting another block to put in and leave the old tranny/ transaxle in? the transmission seems to be fine and I wouldnt mind leaving it there if this is the case? it is a 5 spd if that makes any difference? sorry im a little new to this end of honda maintenance.

When swapping, I find it easiest to remove the engine/trans as a unit. Whether or not you can keep the trans depends on which motor u go with. I believe the prelude of that vintage comes with a B20A1? The engine's code is stamped on a flat surface on the block located right where the engine joins the trans.
I have been buying a few engines/transmissions/parts from www.jdmenginescorp.com lately. Really good pricing, SUPER clean parts, good service. I think they have prelude B20s there.
How much oil does the original motor burn? Where is it burning it from? I'd do a compression test before totally condemning the motor.

very helpful site I would agree and say b20a(x) anything over the 2.1 i had a b20a5 in my lude and it had 270k miles with not a drop of oil or any smoke. and the guy I bought it from said the odometer didnt work either time he owned it or me either for that matter
