Looking at a '99 Accord...Questions!
Hey everyone, this is my first post here. Likewise, I'm looking at making my first Honda purchase sometime in the near future.
Right now, my current ride is a '93 S-10. I like the truck a lot, but have been wanting a nice car, something good on gas, reliable, etc. I found a 1999 Accord on my local Craigslist, and the owner is interested in trading for my truck. My problem is, I am pretty ignorant when it comes to Hondas, as I have never owned one. What are some common problems/issues I should look for when potentially buying?
The car in question has the 4 clyinder VTEC engine, 190,xxx miles. Owner says it runs good, and he drives it daily.
I tried to do a little research, and saw where the timing belt & water pump should be replaced every 100k miles. What's the cost to replace if this hasn't already been done?
I trust my own judgement enough to know if the motor is crap, which hopefully it isn't. I know Hondas have a good reputation when it comes to longevity of the motors. I am just wondering if there's anything I might not think of or know about when it comes to this particular model. I'm supposed to meet up with this guy tomorrow afternoon to look at the car. I'll take some pics if you guys think it would be beneficial to make an assessment.
Thanks!

The most common issue that comes to mind is the automatic transmission failures. Is the one you're looking at an auto or 5-speed?
I think the dealership will charge you around $450 for a full timing belt job with water pump, but there is a very good video on YouTube that shows you how to do the whole thing yourself.

Thankfully it's a 5 speed. Not to offend anyone, but I wouldn't really want an automatic
A standard is too much fun.
If I end up getting the car, I'll check that video out. I'm a decent mechanic, so between that and this forum I'm sure I could do the job myself.
The car seemed really nice. It's stock, with 190k miles. 4 cylinder engine. The guy said it was the VTEC 2.3 liter - does that sound right? He didn't seem to know a whole lot about the engine.
