Ok so this is the question that me and i am sure many Integra owners have after reading this post. Does anyone know and will be willing to inform me on how to do exactly a CORRECT power steering loop on my 1999 DC. I would like to remove my power steering from my car. And after some extensive research in the matter. All i can gather is that the correct way to do it is By doing a loop with a breather/small resivor and to gut the rack of some valves. The only thing I can not find is how to gut the valves what valves to gut and how to make and connect the breather/loop assembly. I have an idea but would like more exact incite on this.
Dont do the breather. The power steering system is designed to be a closed loop. Adding a breather will introduce air into it and possibly contaminate and destroy your rack.
This is the fully reversible DIY on team integra, it covers every single point. You don't even need to buy anything other than a fitting which is $0.90 at any hardware/parts store.
Firstly, I recommend loosening your wingnut and removing the power steering belt. This will give you a feel for the non-ps rack. But, it will be slightly more difficult this way because you have to force fluid through the pump, so keep in mind that looping the rack will be 10-20% easier than driving without a belt.
Here is the writeup, you could be even more ballsy and install an EG subframe+manual rack, but it is a lot of work, but easier to steer than a looped DC rack due to the turn ratio.
This method will rip EVERYTHING out and just leave 1 hose going around your rack. No point in keeping the reservoir and adding a breather, this method is simpler and easier

Goodluck!

Yeah man. I took the entire thing off my 91 integra and it drove absolutely fine for 3 years......had no issues, and the person I sold it to had no issues. Not sure why it "NEEDS" to be looped.
Believe me, the engineers designed it that way for a reason. The manual rack is a closed system. Do you really think having fine particles between the splines is a good idea?
Sure you can get away with leaving the system open, according to those two instances ^, but spend the extra 2 minutes and stick a loop on it.

Not really worried about passing emissions. I live in elpaso and there are way to many ways to get a legit/ not so legit emissions sticker. I dont really see why you be failed if your system was looped. If its looped it wont leak and emissions inspectors are normaly just worried about leaks being introduced into the environment.

doing the EG manual rack and subframe is not really one of my options at this moment. And do to my job I dont really want to just take the belt off. I all my research says that if you just do that it is harder to turn then it would be if you where to do a correct loop IE taking out valves and looping to keep fluid in there. I dont really want to take a chance on A open streeing rack eating its self one day.

Okay so I did the loop today with out the breather. Pretty soon here I will try it with the breath since I have parts for both setups. But so far I love it. The vehical feeback is so much more better and the bump steer you get from a drop like mine is not that bad anymore. And parking is not even bad at all. The only complaint i have is that taking to one bracket for the lines that is placed on the side right after the motor mount was some what of a bitch. But so far so good. I like it so much that we even did it to my cousins car today too. thanks peeps for the info. I will post a comparison of how the car is with the breather versus with out.
glad to hear you like it. ive been wanting to do it on mine just seems like powersteering and no powersteering would be a big difference...

Its not really i big diff. I mean you notice it when your not moving but even thats not that bad. And when you down shift to second and turn a corner you dont notice it. I feel you get a better feel for the vehical with out power steering. I say go with the revers-able way and see how you like it. Cause i say is not bad but then again I am 220 lbs and work out daily.

OK installed it with the breather not to long ago to see the diff with or with out. it is easier with the breather. I like it even more.

But again its just an opinion you can go with whatever your comfortable with!
my vote is either do a real eg manual rack or leave it alone. the ps racks feel like **** without the pump pumping. it's ragefest if you have wide sticky tires in a parking lot and you gain some ridiculous 2-4hp for doing it
I am on my second rack right now and it squeaks when I am not moving and turning the wheel. I am either not doing it correctly, or something. Oh well
I agree with the others, get a manual rack. That's what I plan on doing as soon as this one dies out.

You don't have to change the subframe to use the manual eg rack. I have a diy how-to somewhere on here. It's not hard to do at all. You do have to lower the subframe about 2 inches to get the power rack out.
If you do this, make sure to get the EG steering knuckle and passenger side bushing.
The ratio will be quicker, but the feeling and weight loss easily out weighs this...

When doing this loop there is no holes to plug at all. And depending on which trim of teggy you have you may not even have to buy a hose. IDK but my cousins 94 ls i was able to use a u shaped hose off of the system already. On my car a 99 LS i needed to buy the hose. Still over three moths and everything is holding up well.
