Default 99 accord 2.3 vtec SWAP....EXPERTS.....PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!

I have a 99 accord ex 2.3l vtec 5 speed. 2 cylinders shot craps today due to worn rings. Has 251,000 miles but body and int. are perfect. So I'm fixing her.

I found a 2.3l vtec out of a 99 accord with 118,000 miles from local salvage yard that only deals with insurance totals. Cost 400+ tax (place has good rep)
Questions;
1. Does it matter if the salvage motor was a AOD?
2. the 6th number in my v.i.n. matches totaled accord.
3. Is there any particulars I need to focus on to ensure a perfect swap.
4. I hear people referring to their vtec as "F23A1" how do I know which I have?
5. Can I tell from a pulled motor that it is a match?
Let me know what info you guys need to help me make this successful. I will have replies forwarded to my phone

If this is posted in the wrong section I apologize, I'm new on here.
This is my daily drive and want to get this motor and swap a.s.a.p!
ANY AND ALL HELP IS APPRECIATED IN ADVANCE!

Look for the engine code, (left side of your exhaust manifold and down) And while its out, change your timing belt,plugs etc so you don't have to worry about it down the road.

Not sure if you wanted any other advice, but here goes.

F23A1 is the VTEC engine for 98-02 accords (but not the Ultra Low Emissions version, they're slightly different). I believe Honda stamps the model number into the front of the block, towards the passenger side (for future reference).

Installed used internals from another engine only benefits you by having a low upfront cost. Using new parts = better and more reliable.

Get yourself a HELMS manual or equivalent. Extremely useful for getting the job done right the first time, and they often include pictures! Yay. You can reassemble just about anything on your car if you're wielding one of those. They also include maintenance schedules, so you'll know for sure what to change, and when to change it. And in the case of fluids, what exactly to put back in.
