h23/h22 vtec problem.. help :/
i've got an EG9 with a h23a bottom end and a h22a crower head.. i had a h22a in the car previously but i destroyed the bottom end.. at that time i had a problem with the vtec engagement.. now that i took the motor out and put a new one in.. replace almost all of the sensors.. i have no check engine light now.. but the motor gets to about 7k.. and feels like it hits a nasty rev limiter.. kinda violent sounding.. not a normal cut off.. and it still lacks vtec.. i'm running a spoon h22a ecu.. which was tested in a stock prelude.. and it ripped.. but it just dosn't like my car.. any ideas would be greatly appreciated.. thx
i wouldnt be supprized if it was a O2 sensor. u sure u have the VTEC wires hooked up. damn O2 if u cant figure it it its probably the O2. man those little bastards screw up everything. not saying thats it or anything..
yah the o2 sensor was bad but i replaced it yesterday and it got rid of a few codes the ecu was throwing.. that didn't fix the vtec problem tho.. i'll check the wiring again tmrw.. thanks
you say you have a spoon variant chip, because the reason you are probably not throwing a code is these aftermarket chips remove alot/most of ecu codes.
my suggestion is to find a stock h22 ecu and plug it in and drive, and see if you get any codes...

? you change a few gears on the block.. and put a head on it.. with h22a arp head studs..
i think the ecu could be screwing something up.. are there any other ecu's i can use that won't harm anything just to test it? i don't have any stock ecu's at the time.. but it showed the o2 code.. and a few others.. thx.. i guess i'll keep looking for a stock ecu..
dc.. find sumone to trade me shell for shell.. :] the cl would have been fast with this motor lol sCary fast

the rev limiter you are hitting at ~6.5k is because the vtec not engageing. check w/someone who has an h22 in the same car and see if there was any wires you need to switch on the harness, i know there is a few in the accord, so maybe a few in yours. also check your oil level, if there is not enough oil pressure it wont engage.
yah we found out the pinouts different on the h22a ecu.. and the impedence(sp) on the injectors is different too.. i'll keep you guys updated thanks a lot.. btw i got old pictures of the car on http://threefeetdeep.bounceme.net/ i'll take some up to date pics with a better camera in a few days..
i reccomened gettin some type or management system and going to the dyno with a stock h23 bottom end the compression is much lower and the fuel curve will not be close to the same as a stock vtec prelude. Try that out u migth be surprised

well a spoon ecu is also meant for autoX.. so yes i'm aware its not the best choice.. but hey it was free.. so until i get a standalone.. this will have to work.. in conjunction with a safc
