Shady....

Might have an interest...but why remove the VIN? It'll render the trans useless. Unless you have a way to remove the whole thing all together (which still is not legal) I would not touch it.

Will you post pictures on H-T?

LOL @ this being shady. This trans is from my old Si. I also sold the OP the LSD trans to replace the original one. There's nothing shady here. The trans is in great shape. It's NOT stolen. There's no funny bidness.

I remove VIN tags from my own engine/trans parts that I sell. It doesnt render the trans useless. You simply drill out the rivets holding the # on. JDM transes and dealer replacement trans assemblies dont have VIN tags. I have a JDM ITR trans and a new replacement ITR trans that have VIN holes but no tag. Cops dont pop hoods and check numbers almost anywhere except CA. Even if they did, you could show them a printed bill of sale.

I wouldn't want my VIN floating around for a lot of reasons. One of them being that most of my VINs come from cars that are theft targets.

Bump for a good guy and a mint trans!

I will be in contact. From what I know, altering/removing a VIN is illegal.

Explain how removing a VIN keeps your vehicle safe? If someone wants your car, they'll find a way to jack it.

What good will "a printed bill of sale" do if it cannot identify the actual transmission/engine that I purchased?

Wouldn't it be better for both parties to state--

I am AOBrien, seller of transmission : 1GHEJxxxxxxxxx. From here on mRek9R, buyer, will become the new owner of : 1GHEJxxxxxxxx for the amount of : $450.00.

--in the actual bill of sale?

Also I'd love to see a photo of the area where a VIN was removed. Is there evidence of removal?

Yes, JDM and Dealer replaced engines/trans will not have VINs, but what's beneficial about purchasing from the dealer is that I will have an official invoice from that dealership about the new trans. That means more power to argue that a new dealer replaced trans will not have a VIN.

Indeed, it's a great price! But when did all this "not selling my **** with vin" on start?

Well, without taking up to much room debating this on a FS thread, VIN #s are connected to a person's address, name, license plate #...and are used to cut keys. It'd be too easy for a thief to buy a $450 trans (or $50 fender or $100 trunk lid...whatever the seller is selling) and then come back later for a much more valuable car. That's why a lot of people don't sell VIN tagged parts. I don't post pics of my VINs either. Call it paranoid, but homie got a lot of nice things and homie don't play dat.

As far as that being illegal, so is....lets say selling a car with a test pipe, or selling some used emissions equipment. Not a big deal. You'll probably never have an issue.

I hope you guys work the deal out in a way that's comfortable for the both of you. I do not sell VIN tagged parts from cars that I own. I've never had issues and neither have my buyers.

As far as a number to put on the bll of sale and other identifiers, I use punch mark stamps and the serial # on the trans label.
