Icon2 block guard, head questions

k got my 93 ls da dynoed. made 391 but they are saying something is wrong even tho it went from 371 to 391. they said head gasket seems to be bad or going bad. now my question is if i was to put a new one which i am because the one on there is old, if i wanted to add a block guard since it does not have one from the previous owner but it does have pistons and rods etc would that be hard to do ? do the pistons etc have to be removed? which would involve more labor from a shop or it is something that aslong as the head is off they can add?

head might get ported since it will be off and already has springs and crower cams.

Don't use a block guard it will only make things worse

how come? we have one in the ef. made 525 no problems almost running 10s daily driven.

Block guards are worthless unless you just want to reduce the cooling capabilities of your cooling system!!!

they're not as simple as hammering it into the coolant passage. you have to make sure you didnt mess up the cylinders while doing so. more trouble than it's worth.

there's always 2 sides to the story. there are guards that allow perfectly fine cooling capability.
and no, you don't want to just hammer it in.
to do it properly, the guard does need a bit of cleaning up, as your cylinders will be slightly distorted naturally

Im glad to see that this thread hasnt been trolled yet as i saw block guard in the title. This is one of those things you have to do a lot of research on and make your own desicion on like aluminum under-drive crank pulleys. After doing much research for myself ive developed a personal opinion that block guards are a waste of money. If you reach the point where one would do more harm then good youve pretty much reached the point of time to just sleeve the motor.

um interesting information. over here on our ef it was reccomended. made 525 so far. its been on for a while no problems so far thankfully.

after installing a block guard you should have your cylinders refinished in case it makes them out of round. IMO a blockguard could be of help as far as gasket seal, because the cylinders would not be able to move in relationship with the cylinder head.

yes, if done on the DA will be done the same way also
