Default Clutch reccomendation for 450whp

hey guys, i'm in the process of putting my new set up together and i'm not sure of what clutch to get. it's an lsvtec, holset turbo, i'll be between 450-500whp. the car is mainly a track car, and i don't care about streetability really. i've used a CC stage 4 in my old set up around 3500whp and was unhappy, it would lock me out of gears at high rpms and I dont wanna go that direction again.

other than a twin disc, what are your guys reccomendations?

thanks,
Eric

Your wasting your money getting anything other then a twin disc. I'm speaking from experience. If you can afford a new one buy a used one.

Most of the time I see high rpm shifting issues out of single disc clutchs, its because of a flywheel offset, resurface issue or a lsd install error.

I ran a comp stg 5 w upgraded pressure plate and comp fly trapping 138 on 93 for 2 seasons, made over 200 track passes and 10k miles on the street. I flat foot shifted and preloaded it almost every pass. I removed it and sold it to a customer of mine over a year ago, he still runs it till this day. Its a low 11 sec 00 SI. Best clutch either of us has ever owned.

If you don't want to go back to another comp, try out a action 2md, those are great single disc clutchs. Aquafina has always gave me good deals on them.

Personally I go with the clutch manufactures flywheel, if they don't have one, I use a brand new flywheel. No resurfaced ones. Resurfacing doesn't make much sense around here, the cost of taking a chance is about the same as a new one from napa.

Twin disc wise, I really really like the comp twins. I have a clutchmasters twin up for grabs for cheap.

i used the action 2md in my vitara setup a few years ago, good clutch.

im going to agree here on the comp stage 5 with upgraded pressure plate. im using one now putting down between 440-500hp and am absolutely pleased with it. only have one day of track time on it but it shifted perfectly smooth at 9000rpm. ive got lots of street miles on it. it honestly blows the act xtreme pp and 6 puck setup i used for years out of the water. it has less pedal pressure, shifts quicker and doesnt lock me out of gears. the disks themselves seem to hold up better too. the old act's i was going through 2 disks a year with issues from rainbowing to missing fingernail sized sections of the friction material. comparatively the comp disk looks brand new. i think the whole kit cost me just about 400 and i do recommend it

My Comp stage 5 started slipping around 500hp, i went with exedy twin disc after that, once you get used to it is no problem for the occasional trip on the street

dont really hear a lot about them, but i use lsdmotorsports clutches.
i was making about 350whp last year and going for 550ish this year, im not going to replace the clutch yet since its been flawless. launching at 6800 on slicks didnt hurt it.
its the "dragger" clutch. rated to 495ft/lbs. 6 puck, sprung hub and a dual diaphram pressure plate.

My Comp Stg 5 took a poop on me after 6k miles, that's with a mix of street/strip/dyno. First power was at 380hp and then 430hp. Went for a third dyno session to make more power and it couldn't hold anymore. Went with the ACT 408tq capacity clutch and made 577hp & 440tq on the dyno. It still doesn't slip, whether it be street or strip. Matter of a fact, it bites harder than the Comp ever did.

My comp Stage 4 worked great, street and track, and is still in the car with a new owner. your biggest thing to look at is TQ, not HP for a clutch application. Main issues are like posted above, wrong stepped flywheel, etc. most clutch issues are user related. A comp 5 should hold what you want no issues, assuming everything is correct in the setup
