why in the world would you waste so much money? you could buy one that has already been imported or just build an USDM... literally the only car i would consider paying to import would be an R33 .. its not free to have car shipped over, it has to come over on a boat, it would run around 10k
Now, I don't usually jump on people over the internet....but
You could not even put together a legible sentence in your post...how the hell do you plan on getting through the mountain of red tape that importing a vehicle would entail?
Second, by the time you got a car here from Japan, it would cost as much, or more than just finding a car that is already here. Contrary to popular (or at least your) belief, Japan is not just overflowing with minty JDM CRX's waiting for a boatride to the US. A decent car there is going to have roughly the same value as a decent car here is. Then you have currency exchange rates, preperation and packing of the car, import / export fees, broker fees, port fees, inspections........are you getting the point here?
As others have said....you would be looking at 10k+ for a decent car...plus a massive headache gettig it here. If you look hard enough, you can find a JDm car already in the US for about the same price, and all you gotta do is go pick it up, or pay maybe 1k to have it shipped coast to coast.
If you're from cali N1 concepts sells JDM
guys is not the same i own an ef8 and is no ware near to the other models body is much stiffer and heavier mounts are different dash is different seats wheels brakes everything
Contrary to what floodx4 says, it is easier to import an older car than a newer one. The only thing is, the 2nd Gen CRX still isn't old enough. Back in the 80's importing cars was popular. Manufacturers like Mercedes offered models unavailable here (sound familiar) with the strong dollar it ended up costing less. It wasn't totally illegal hence the name "Gray Market". So many cars were brought in that a law was passed that cars had to meet current safety and emissions levels. Only cars older than 25 years will be exempt.
Motorex was importing Skylines, but they had to bring the car up to current crash-worthiness standards and prove it with crash tests. They are no longer around, and it's said that their modifications didn't meet standards.
I should also mention that you can import any car, you just can't drive it on the street. Remember the stories of Bill Gates illegal Porsche 959? Some skirt the law by cutting a car in half, importing it, then reassembling it. Or they can tag an "Off-road use only" car for the street.
To get an 1988 CRX, you'll have to wait a couple more years though you could start getting the ball rolling now. I'd recommend contacting a importing company, they are more experienced than most people on an internet forum. I've thought of swapping cars with an EDM owner (not that I'd actually do it). Apparently USDM stuff is as popular there as EDM and JDM stuff is here.

SO...I live in Washington State on the border to Canada and I see TONS of RHD cars, some EF8's all around Vancouver. There are companies who import cars from Japan in Canada so your best bet is to buy an EF8 or any other imported car from a Canadian dealer or from someone selling their car. You have to pay taxes and some kind of fee when transfering a car from Canada to the US. The beauty about living in Whatcom County...NO SMOG CHECKS!!!! You can deck out your ride with just about anything here and no ref nor smog check.. HUGE change from when I lived in socal.
They changed the law in canada. I go to quebec a lot and they used to let you register anything 15 years and older. This was a few years ago, like 3.
I think they suspended foreign car registration for the time being. I know of a few spot that had anything you can think of. Nissans, Mazdas, Mits. Mazda Familia GTR is yummy!!
If the car you buy was registered before the ban, than your grandfathered in, and your good to go...

Again...no one is saying its impossible, its just not practical. Unless you find some amazing, over-the-top rare, mint condition car that is actually worth the hassle, there are so many other options that will put you in a great car, that don't involve trying to import a car as an individual. But...to each his own I guess.
