I bought my cb7 from a friend and the fuell light worked when he had it and now it has never worked for me it's never on I ran out of gas 2 times from it

 

How accurate is the fuel gauge? My fuel gauge is known to be quirky. It used to not work well, but for the past 7 years, its been okay enough. I am always wondering if my fuel light works though, because I have only see it come on maybe 3 times in the past 10 years. I do tend to try to fill up at the required mileage though (knowing if I drove interstate or around town).

You could try pulling the speedo cluster out and check if the bulb is good. Maybe switch the bulb with a known good one from back there and see if it works.

 

Start simple, is the bulb good? Test the low level part of the sender?

 

If the gauge works use that as an indicator to fuel up. My bulb doesn't work either but the gauge does, when the gauge falls pass E and does not rise up by a hair, that's an indication to refuel ASAP.

If you're really picky about something so mild take apart your cluster and replace the bulb.

 

after 21 years my car came to me without the fuel light bulb working, changed it and poof.

 

so i decided to change my bulb and now my fuel gauge climb to full and it has stayed there, what did i do wrong?
