93 Del Sol Si slow to start off
Hi there.
I was driving a Del Sol that some guy is selling.
It is the Si spec with original motor and tranny in it.
Something weird I noticed is that when I am sitting at a stop light and then take off, it is very slow at first. I pull the clutch up to the biting point and hit the gas but the car only barely moves until it gets over 2000 rpms or so.
If I do it another way, where I rev it up and then fully engage the clutch, it responds quicker but still isn't that great. I was never even able to get the car to peel out or anything.
What could be the cause of this? It has been a while since I've driven a stick and everything else is good with the shifting and driving except for that.
Is it a major problem? (he has a custom ECU in it and custom exhause + performance intake as well)
Should I skip this car?

The clutch wasn't slipping.
I don't think the mods killed the torque though because soon as the revs go over about 2000 it really takes off, i can even be just slowly cruising in 2nd or third and hit the gas and it takes off fast. Only in 1st when i first take off it has this problem

Just met up with him for another drive, turns out I'm just not giving it enough gas for the go. It just seemed odd because the other one I drove only took a little push of the gas to get it going.
He has an e28 ECU on it. But I know nothing about tuning ECUs so I think I will just leave that alone.
Thanks for the feedback.
I should be grabbing this car this weekend. Will be my new DD/Project (want it to drive nice and last a while so no racing, just niceness)

Not exactly. I had driven another before and i noticed the takeoff was vastly different, but that must be due to his tuning or something. I thought perhaps it was a sign of tranny rouble or something similar
Like I said. It could have been anything. There would have been NO WAY IN HADES we would have been able to guess it was the amount of pressure you were, or were not, applying to the pedal.
Skipped it anyway, thing was lowered on springs and felt like **** on the road, all the interior parts were loose.
I went ahead and got a 97 S. Saving up to do a swap in the next year or so after I finish tech school, first big project
