Icon2 CA Smog Help, Ignition Timing

I just bought a 90' si HB out here in San Diego and I am trying to pass the smog test. I am running a Dohc ZC, but I would to try to get it pass a shop who maybe doesn't know too much about hondas.

My Ignition Timing is at 22 deg. I need to bring it down to 18 deg. From my research this should help my emissions. I do not know what the proper ignition timimg is on ZC engine, and i am hoping that adjusting this will not affect my car in a bad way. Will it?

Thanks for the help in advance

I can let you know where I took mine to smog if you're still here in San Diego. It's been a while but I bought some stuff off of you YEARS ago.

Thanks for the information guys.

24ten, I moved down to San Diego, so if you could PM that info to me, I would greatly appreciate it.

I got my jdm dohc zc to pass in cali at a sac shop failed with a pg7 ecu and 91 octane but I got it to pass with a pm6 and 87 octane. Barely did it but it was tested like a 1.5l sohc because that's what my BAR sticker says. lol

Ditto on the ECU. It passed once with the PG7 but the tech had to run the test a gear lower than normal. After putting the PM6 ECU it never had a problem.

The seller is required to get the car through smog, not the buyer. Why are you dealing with this hassle?

Unfortunately, the seller got deported back to Mexico, so he is no good to me now.

I am running on a PM6 ECU, oil change, run hot, and 91 octane hopefully I will pass.

Thanks for the info guys.

See if your shop can do a pre-test first rather than a real test.
It might cost you a little (might not) to have them do this for you.
The idea is to see your numbers before it gets sent in as a real test.
If you are worried that it might fail miserably then it's something to consider.
