0BD1/Obd2 Question
so someone let me know if im right on this so a 92-95 civic is obd1 and a 96-00 civic is obd2 and if i wanted to throw an obd2 b16 engine in a 92-95 civic i will need to buy the ob2 to obd1 conversion harness and it should just plug in no problem???
No, it doesn't work that way. The only thing the conversion harness does is let you use an OBD2 ECU in an OBD1 car or vice versa (also use an a USDM OBD2 ECU in an OBD1 car will result in numerous CEL codes for missing sensors, a JDM ECU will not look for this extra equipment though) you're still left with the issue of a distributer, alternator and injectors that wont plug in though. You can get around this issue a few ways: You can use an OBD2 Integra harness and everything will be plug and play. You can swap the components I listed for OBD1 versions (sometimes you can do a lot of this pretty cheap, distributor guts swap between D and B-series distributors, so you can swap the guts and not spend any money, D15B7/D16Z6 injectors are the same as B-series injectors so they can simply be swapped over, sometimes you can swap the voltage regulator between alternators, also free. You can cut and splice plugs (this is crude IMO and I don't like using it unless I'm really stuck)
