Hey guys, ive been on the market for a tl and have been doin some research on them as well. It looks like the main issue that keeps comin up with these is of course the transmission failing. I have managed to find a tl literally down the street from me at a very reputable dealership. the only problem of course is they say it WILL need a new transmission.
As it sits they want 9500 with 80,000 miles and I was told they had a quote from the tranny shop thats its going to be another 2800 to replace the tranny. I see alot of "is it worth it threads anbd i guess this is another one. I have only ever had the older hondas and nothing this new so im not sure what to expect

I have an 07 Type-S AUTO with close to 70000 miles now. Owned it since new and have had no problems. I have also owned an 05 6MT, that had a couple quirks but nothing I would get rid of the car over. To me buying a used car is a roll of the dice if you do not know the cars history personally. I can say none of my local TL owners that are on the AZ forums have had trans issue's. Now the 99-03 did have a ton of issues, But from my understanding those issues don't relate to the 3rd Gen models. If anything the 3rd Gen had more MT issues than the Auto's do.
Why?

I would say if you could pickup the car for 9k that would be a good deal. Does it have navi? If you look on ebay for a while it isn't hard to find a tranny with under 20k for under a grand... it can't be that hard to swap the tranny. I am sure you could find someone to do it for around a grand.
doesnt seem like a bad deal. if the car was perfect a 06 TL with those miles would usually sell for about 14k..so u would have his done at about 12500 so thats fair.
to be honest you can get a used tranny from a junkyard for about 1100 with low miles..its weird because its usually the 04's with the trans problems.
but anyways good luck with your purchase. if it was me i'd offer 9 and then throw in a used tranny and be done at about 10500.
