Icon3 p28 or p72 or p13

I have a swapped h22 engine in my 92 prelude and I need an ecu. And I want to try out hondata. Or might just keep it virgin. Any suggestions of which ECU to go with and the pros and cons of each

For starters the p13 is the only ecu that you can keep to run it "virign"

I do believe that both of the other ecu's are chippable, so running either or really wont matter. Although IIRC the difference between both ecus stock is one doesnt have a knock sensor function, and the other doesnt have an IAB function.

P28's are the cheapest. P13's you can't tune with Hondata as far as I know. I went with the P72 so it would run the secondary butterflys, but I ended up deleting them anyways. I'd go with the P28.

P13 is the stock H22 ECU

P28 is originally found in '92 - '95 Civic EX/Si models, but they're commonly chipped to run just about everything including the odd toyota and nissan.

If you want to run the IABs use a P72. otherwise use a P28 or P06.

You'll need to wire them. It's 2 wires.

i had my a p13 wired so the wires are just sitting down there, when i had my p13 in the car sounded like ****. so i put my p14 back in, then a month or so later someone stole it out of my backseat.

i was told it ran like **** because i had the h23 injectors in instead of my h22 ones

is that correct?

^^Probably, if you are going to run ANYTHING different than what the stock ecu is programmed for (injectors, intake, exhaust, etc) your car won't be running as good as it could. The P14 won't let you use VTEC, so the swap is a waste at that point. Get a P06, socket it, mod it for VTEC and run a Moates Demon w/ Neptune. Oh yeah, get a wide band O2 sensor and controller so you can know what your car is doing. Then just tune it on the street accordingly. Thats the only way you can get the most from your car.

A guy I know is trying to convince me it is better to physically remove the IAB functionality from my H23A VTEC. I told him I would lose midrange torque if I did that. What do you think of that? I am aware I would get an engine light using my OBD2 ecu, but ideally I would switch over to OBD1 to tune anyways...

Hondas don't exactly make a lot of mid range torque to start with so I've never understood why you'd want to take away from that for very minimal increase in top end power. You wont throw a CEL though.

I gained across the entire rpm range gutting my stock intake mani and carving out the iab holes. Peak gain of 12whp. If your motor is completely stock it may not be the same, but with cams and compression it made a big difference on my motor.

Great post guys...

Has anyone tried the P13 JDM ecu with the moates demon.

I recenlty tried to remove the socket on a P06 I got form someone that was already chipped.. the socket I belive is prob fouled up with my desoldering and I want to try the P13

So who on here has a chipped p13 with knock disabled and has the demon installed?

A solid light is one of three things. Bad ground, bad Binary(ROM), Bad ecu.

I want to see this, since all the companies I have seen that do ecu work say it can't be done! I have a p13 and a p14 in my garage that would be much more usefull if this is possible!

Companies typically wont mess with p13s an will give the advice to not chip it or the "we cant chip it", its a different board different platform; code.
The USDM and the JDM ecus can be chipped. It use to be that only spoon ( i believe it was spoon) had the ecu tunable. now many ppl do.

its still easier to just get a p72 if you want to use ectune or hondata etc, for when you wannna keep your IAB's.
